Had some pretty epic arguments back in the day here. A few decent relationships of comraderie. I think I was even a mod for a while.

I didn't know shit about MBTI then, so I grew bored with what I thought was a shallow theory. A few months ago an old friend I introduced MBTI to back in the day now had the pleasure of teaching me about Jungian Cognitive Functions.

As skeptical as I was, it really paints some very clear, obvious realities, even if it doesn't try to explain why they exist or how they work--just, real observations.

/r/intp is mostly boring and annoying, unfortunately.

What's this place like, lately? For a time in the beginning it was so little used that I could respond to virtually every thread that popped up that interested me.

Here it feels like typology is dead in general, but maybe that's just how I feel about it. Seems like very few agree on anything or find such vast differences in understanding that people stop caring to discuss it. Only the ones that want their views heard seem candid enough to continue discussing it.

At least we know that reaching 25 isn't predicated on whether or not we frequent this forum.

What made you pick this particular jester for your avatar?

Aye, I feel like MBTI isn't well regarded by most intelligent people because MBTI is a bastardization of the underlying principles. Everyone seems to think that there are 4 axes of personality, and that you're some percentage between I/E, T/F, etc.

That's what happens when you take an INTP's theory through an INFP's lens, I guess.

It gets old, quickly, trying to correct everyone who seems to think they're either INTP of INTJ, when they literally share no functions, for example.

There goes that theory. I wonder if anyone has died before age 25, who was here in their teen years?

What made you pick this particular jester for your avatar?

, the male figure depicted in the painting, was the court jester when Poland was at the height of its political, economic and cultural power during the era of the Renaissance in Poland, during the reign of King Sigismund I the Old (reigned 1506–1548).[1][2] He was a popular figure; besides his fame as a jester he has been described as an eloquent, witty, and intelligent man, using satire to comment on the nation's past, present, and future.[1][2] Unlike jesters of other European courts, Stańczyk has always been considered as much more than a mere entertainer.[3]

..."... only the jester realizes its significance – while the rulers are partying.."

..."...Working on this painting, Matejko was also inspired by the book Król zamczyska by Seweryn Goszczyński, whose main character – a loner, living in the castle's ruins, trying to reconcile past and present, and himself inspired by Stańczyk – likely influenced this painting."
I really resonated with the character in the painting. I feel like I'm accepted by society mostly by virtue of a well developed sense of wit and charm, but that I'm generally depressed about the state of the world and unable to communicate my understanding to those celebrating and/or worrying about comparably meaningless things.

I was also a lot more depressed at the time in general than I am now, though. I was a Christian, which meant I perpetually felt like a failure by virtue of being unable to communicate with God and unable to stop 'sinning'.

Good question. I've always loved this painting.

I know that feeling and I strongly relate to Stańczyk theme, specifically in the Wyspiański's portrayal.

Hello :)

I recognise the avatar from cruising through some of the older threads, though I wasn't here during your time.

We've got a mix here. Most are aware of the cognitive functions, but there's another layer of controversy that takes place past that point too. While few people agree, there are many competent thinkers here if you want to explore the territory.

For many, typology is sort of a secondary function for the forum though, what else do you do?

It seemed like a very INTP thing. Not universal, but more often felt by INTP's than others.

Woah, didn't expect to be remembered.

That's neat. Anything in particular you've associated with me through reading old stuff?

I do a lot of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and Judo, am beginning to get paid for web development stuff, studying Javascript, and while climbing is a big part of my life, I haven't been doing it actively much for the last two years (just every once in a while when invited). Currently planning my escape to the nomadic lifestyle I was born for.

What else... Know 4 languages, including Esperanto, play Go competently (another lifelong hobby that's on and off), know quite a bit about vintage japanese bikes, of which I've owned several and driven a few very long trips on, and have never graduated from anything in my life--neither elementary, middle, or highschool, or college, even though I've gone to all of those. I like to argue about philosophy, and enjoy cooking (I've finally, after many thousands of eggs, figured out how to cook perfect scrambled eggs every time, which is really a magical thing. I've also cooked hundreds of steaks, pretty damn good at those, but not really at 100% consistency yet).

Etc.
