Last two days I didn't sleep too well. I woke up with acid reflux too. Had to take several tablets to neutralize the acid. I drank coffee in the evening. I won't do that again.
Seems it is bas for the stomach.
Variform, I assume you're taking other medications at the moment? I suggest talking about drinking coffee with your doctor. It may produce some unwanted chemical reactions.
Also, I never drink coffee on an empty stomach. I did that once during our annual church fasting. It felt like I poured battery acid on my insides.
I don't take any medication.
I can't believe no one on this forum has heard of Yerba Maté![]()
As a historical side note, I believe coffee originated from Ethiopia, also where another infamous psychotropic stimulant foliage (Khat) originates from.
Ah I see.
Maybe something for a headache. I have had headaches all my life. Stress related I bet.
That is why I stopped drinking coffee. I drank it when I lived at home. Every night. But when I moved out I didn't make it regularly. When I would still visit my mother, I drank it there, but when I got home, I had a headache when the caffeine was broken down, or the next day. At this time I did not realize how dysfunctional I was raised. So I thought it must be the caffeine in coffee that gave me headaches.
Recently I suddenly realized the headache might never have been the coffee. But the subconscious stress I had about my home situation. And that I gace up coffee for the wrong reason.
That is why I started drinking it. As an experiment. It took me weeks to finally do it. I may not continue, because I totally overlooked or forgot that it may have side effects , like acid reflux. I used medication for that called Nexium. It worked wonders. Very good medicine. Before that I had used ranitidine and other things.
I don't want to risk my stomach again. And coffee I think is bad for the heart too.
Right now I am back to tea. Orange flavored black tea. Mmm. Every morning. It is my wake up tea. Coffee, if I keep using it, I will do so rarely.
I have Yerba here. Don't drink it much. It is hard to get. I ordered it through a smart shop actually.
They want to make Khat illegal here too. It causes no issues in society and only Ethiopians chew it. Still, the war on consciousness must be upheld as well as the war on spirituality, even the war on self-determination.
It is used all over Europe, up into Scandinavia. Never heard of any issues with it. If coffee is legal, I don't see why Khat should not be.
But I ebt it is these fucking christians again. I am telling you, give a religious person power and they WILL abuse it to promote their own agenda.
It is my opinion that all parties based on religion must be made illegal. We want the separation of religion and church, then let's go for that all the way. No more christian parties. Or islamic. Or any one of them.
Call me dull, but I prefer to stick with a good ol' fashioned orange mocha frappuccino.
Failing that, I like variety. I associate a lot of different moods and experiences with hot beverages. I have fond memories of wandering through empty midnight school halls in the midst of winter, sipping wretched, scalding bean water dispensed from heartless boxy machines into waxy paper cups. Memories of splitting a pot of Turkish coffee for the first time with a close friend. Memories of aimless nights in my youth milking free refills of drip coffee long past the point where café employees started throwing dark looks our way. Memories of countless lazy afternoons slowly draining espresso based drinks over meandering conversations or fluff novels. Memories of Tim Horton's even.
There are others, but no point going on. I like the associations more than the drink at times.
At home I'm not too picky. I drink pre-ground drip through a micro-filter, usually a medium roast of varying blends. I know what I enjoy, but I'm not a connoisseur and I'm not finicky.
There was a point where my brother was spending very little money, and he switched to instant to keep costs low. It was a crack up. Between the two of us, he's more into coffee, so he must have really wanted to save. For his birthday I bought some kopi luwak arabica. Overpriced though it is, the whole civet thing isn't just an eccentric excuse to overspend as far as I can tell. Drinking it black (which I normally don't do), there was full flavour but almost no bitterness.
The next closest to that was coffee I had in Ecuador recently. It was from a small farm we were visiting, roasted over open flame in front of us (no clue if that improves flavour, but it looked cool), and brewed on the spot. It was a touch harsher than the kopi luwak, but still minimal bitterness and nice rich flavour when taken black. I bought a bunch to bring home at the time, but I ended up getting a bit drunk shortly after and absent-mindedly left it somewhere. The same place made alcohol distilled from cane sugar, and I underestimated how hard it would hit me on an empty stomach.
