I took a job as a bike courier in Toronto, figuring that it would be easier to train for my cross-Canada bike tour while working rather than training after work.

Started the job on Monday, and today I had my first collision; not with a car, but with a pedestrian. Just as I was entering the intersection, my light turned yellow, and as I crossed the crosswalk on the other side, this moron stepped out in front of me (I was going about 25 km/hr) with his nose buried in his phone. Naturally, things got a little hairy.

Anyway, is it really horribly abnormal of me to blame the guy for my day turning south from the time of the crash on?

Not really. Fuck that guy.

People need to pay more attention.

Looking at your phone while walking is like trying to read a book while walking. What kind of moron does that?

I deliver pizza. I don't even know how many times I've almost hit someone, because they weren't paying attention. Little kids just running out into the road. Asshole's in suits that just can't wait.

Two accidents I've had while delivering were me getting rear ended. People just not paying attention, to the guy sitting at a red light. Oh, and the one time I got hit by a guy on a motorcycle that was following too close and tried to drive around my left side... while I was making a left turn.

And black people J walking across the street at night, wearing all black. :storks:

My pet hate. I can't count the amount of times I've had to react to avoid pedestrians doing this exact thing.

No, not if the guy was on the phone and not paying attention and stepped out right in front of you. Whenever I'm on the phone I make sure to pay extra attention to my surroundings because I know I might fuck up otherwise. Once while I was listening to music on my headphones I stepped out in front of a train. Luckily it was like 30 meters away but I had no idea it was even approaching, this was next to the train stop and it was the train I was taking too, so when I got on it I got told of by the conductor, and I was like "yeah I'm an idiot I'm sorry :("
