:elephant:

I arrive on an elephant bearing the gift of information.

uhh. well, that's as far as my attention span can go. lol
anyway... i just want other people's input... if you guys are willing to share it. (please?)
so I'm here to pose the challenge of typing me. (I suspect I may be either entp or intp.)

Here's the gist of my behavior. (cause I'm aware you guys have so much more important things to think about.)

1.) when I was young I always got into trouble with authority figures and other people (teachers, older family members, even my best friend somehow got mad at me when I didn't even do anything other than be oblivious of the rest of the world.)

2.) despite the anger I effortlessly elicit in people. i still managed to be a happy kid. i would explore the neighborhood and tell jokes to people i'm not even close to. i liked to build things and come up with stories around the things i built. i even came up with games of my own, and got other people to play with me. sometimes they would steal the games I created... but they wont let me play with them. sometimes, i am able to recreate things just by looking at them. like one time I saw a projector from the cartoon "tarzan". i thought it was interesting. so, I built something like that with flimsy materials. I didn't even know what a projector was but I somehow knew what was needed to build it.

3.) i may be a good test taker. when they made us take entrance exams in school... i was somehow able to place in special classes for fast learners. i dont even know how that happened when i didnt pay much attention in class.

4.) people who talk to me sometimes say i am like a sponge.

5.) i'm okay with other people being irrational sometimes (just sometimes lol ). i imagine what it's like for them... then get an idea where they are coming from. so even though i'm annoyed. i try to let them be. also, i know people rarely listen. so, i save my mental energy for other things.

6.) i can be distracted. but when something interests me, i can spend hours without getting bored learning about it.

7.) i'm also pretty active and positive... unless i'm depressed. or around depressed people.

okay... that's all.. i guess.:o:o:o

thank you.

oh.. and the first time i took the test, i got an intp.
then i think got to know myself better. now i get entp.
but... i kind of keep to myself. so, i dont... know.

I would say ENTP for now. Reason? Your grammar. INTPs would kill themselves before posting something like that. No capitals! Shame on you.

And welcome.

EDIT: Fuck it, you are now ISFP.

English isn't my first language. So, I apologize for that. I've just recently started studying English seriously. I still have trouble expressing myself sometimes. I'm working on it though.

Welcome. I will go with ENTP also. Sounds like you weren't aware of the social boundaries so people probably found you bothersome. Check out ENFP too.

Low Si using INTPs wouldn't mind. I find his writing to still be quite clear, despite grammatical incorrectness. If INTPs value clarity and abhor convention for conventions sake, then his writing is quite consistent with the description, particularly since it's his second language.

Thanks for the responses guys! I really appreciate it. I'm 22 by the way. Also, I'm female. :)

So, you think I'm an intp, Hadoblado?

I do have a dislike for convention. I have been in dangerous situations cause I wanted to do things differently. like one time, i crashed a motorcycle cause I wanted to take the other route. I read somewhere that intps like to take risks like that. And yeah. I got in trouble with my teachers because I asked them questions they were unable to answer. or, i would innocently suggest other ways of doing things.

And yes! I'm all for clarity! If I can make things simple I will.

Yeah. Maybe that's why people would often look at me funny. ENFP. I'm kind of new to typology. So, I haven't read about ENFP's yet. I will check it out. Thanks!

I dont know if this will help... but I am comfortable in disorder. I mean, yes, it can get annoying sometimes... but I think there's more room to maneuver when things aren't perfect.

You discovered the term "ambivert" before making your profile. How did you come about this?

I also put my life at risk without much concern. As long as I got myself into the situation I tend to remain calm.

Do not much appreciate when others decide to put my life at risk.

tell more about the motorcycle crash what led you to take an alternate route and what exactly caused you to crash?

Hmm.
You are an introvert. Yet your Ti is very dominant, making it easy for you to see where people are coming from and be more understandable. You also may have used this tool and passed as an extroverted feeler. Saving energy for better things is also something INTPs like to do, not just when dealing with people who are having bursts. All of this is not a such rare case.
ENFP is possible, but I would rather type you as an INTP or an LII-Ti (go read about socionics).

I hope you don't mind me asking, but which country are you from?

Hm.

Well. I just learned to ride a motorcycle then. So I was practicing...
and there was this turn. 90 degrees angle. It was a pretty sharp turn.
And... usually, I would take the first route which was on level ground. At the end of that level ground right as I would take the turn... there was a speed bump. Then I would go uphill.

Maybe, I wanted to challenge myself.
I decided to take the other route that day.

So, I went downhill... and when I got over that speed bump. The motorcycle swerved... I lost control. Crashed.:o I wasn't injured though. Just a scratched elbow. I can't say the same about the motorcycle :(

I'm teaching myself to be more careful these days.

What I do is compare behaviors of people... and sometimes take into account other factors like their culture, or body language that day, consistency of behavior and some science. ;) I'm from the Philippines btw.

Maybe. But I just... want to know if it does. Cause, I never saw my other girl friends acting that way. I just want to know if there's an explanation why I'm prone to doing these acts. I was 14 then.

There are multiple approaches you can use then.

Approach 1:

Holistically, you obviously feel that the INTP type is more prone to this kind of behaviour than either:

a. any other type

or

b. the type of your friends specifically

Perhaps you chose a, then I would contest that ISTP is more prone to it than the INTP is. Perhaps you chose b, where I would contest that your friends are most likely xSFJ and that any NP or SP type would be more prone to this behaviour than they (vos amies) would based strictly on the preference for extraverted perceiving.

estimated_frequency_table.gif

Approach 2:

You attempt to analyze the behaviour by breaking it down into a coherent sequence of Jung's cognitive functions in an effort to identify what really caused you to veer off that day.

For starters we could try to discern whether the conscious behaviour of steering, shifting, braking and throttling (it was a planned effort ((if only to a minimal extent))) in that direction was a combination of T-N / F-N / F-S / or T-S or the opposing variations thereof.

I believe that @TSR alluded to this above but I'll reiterate now: it seems (heuristically speaking that is) ... that this behaviour was motivated mostly F-S i.e. you felt like veering off and opted for the experience of going downhill instead of up

... however this style of behaviour truly is characteristic of P types overall, not only SP or NP, and definitely not limited to F or T either. It could, for example, be argued that you were subconsciously rejecting the "same old route" and at the last minute veered off for something new and fantastic ... and this is typically credited to Ne, except in the case of physical sensory experiences ... where it is credited to Se. It's a hard sell either way.

So really we get nowhere without more information.

That's Ti for you. When you see a thing, you are thinking about its inner workings, what implies that thing. A Te user would, however, be interested in what the thing itself would imply.

Hmm.

Okay. Yes, there's a lot of factors to consider.
But... since, the reason I came here was to see if I could be typed into either entp or intp... I'll try to provide information.

Okay. One reason I remember doing it... was I thought it was dangerous and didn't make sense to put a speed bump there. Yet, I saw men in motorcycles going downhill to use that turn. (how could they not see the danger?) I was curious as to how they were able to still control the motorcycle. And, I wanted to see if I can do it.

About the girl friends... I could say at that age most girls weren't the type to want to learn riding motorcycles. Or ride it downhill. lol

I'm pretty sure I'm not s or f. If I were... maybe it's low.
Well, I'm way too spacey(i think about how the outcomes of certain decisions might develop, or I really suck at following step by step instructions, or being completely in the moment. there's always something else going on with me.)... and I'm oftentimes detached. Understanding why people do certain things that were previously confusing to me is something I just recently started to learn.

The reason I'm not sure whether I'm e or i... is eventhough I'm strange sometimes. I'm very comfortable around people. I think they are a good source of certain types of information. And well, they are gateway to new experiences. Some of them have interesting lives too!

yeah all the new information tends to rule out preferences for both S and F, which begs the question: why even use that example and compare yourself to your friends at that point, when the irrelevance is so apparent?

It seems like you have the NTP part nailed down. Good for you.

Perhaps you are ambivert?

Oh... wow, thanks. I haven't read up on Ti and Te yet... but I've seen them mentioned in other forums. That's really interesting. Hm. I sometimes wonder what I can do with all the information I randomly collect.

Oh, that... cause Hadoblado mentioned something about dislike for convention. And... I thought that my behavior which is instinctively a bit different from the usual behavior of girls my age that time(which is not to judge them, just for comparison)... might support that.

" Perhaps you are ambivert?"that is what I want to find out! haha

Since Ti is surely your dominant function, from the perspective of socionics, you are either:
INTj-Ti - don't get confused, this is a socionics equivalent of an INTP
Or
ENTp-Ti - this is improbable

Or a INTP, in MBTT, surely not the clear ENTP from MBTT. So yea, learn the cognitive functions, learn socionics and how to differentiate it and work alongside with MBTT. Also read the descritptions of all the types mentioned.

You best know the answers to all the questions, good luck with it all ;)

Hey. thanks! I looked into it. These are really interesting reads. The details amaze me. I wonder how they got to know these really intimate details about a persons personality. It's really cool.

Oh, and.. I checked the LII's description. Since I was already researching about INTj's. Hm. From that I discovered... ILI's. And, I think that... suits me better. Cause I thought the description given for LII's make them seem... like very serious individuals. Although, I'm quite serious... it's only to a certain degree. And, other things that I read there ring true for me. Like the study of human behavior. I take notes... which might be weird to people. But I do that... to see if I can improve on anything for the future. And I conduct these personal experiments. Plus, I have this weird inclination to elicit certain reactions from people... not in a malicious way. Just for the sake of knowing.

Anyway... thanks... cause well, your response... has led me to this. It's more specific than mbti. So... it's a brand new educational adventure for me. ;)

But in the end... whatever my type is... I guess, I'll just work with my gifts.

Since when? You've motivated Ti with arguments that support Fe hitherto. I think Ne has been much more prominent in her posts so far, she seems far to outgoing, risk taking and fearless to be an INTP.

I'm not seeing any inferior Fe either, but there are lots of classical signs of inferior Si on the other hand.

Why would she even be INTP to begin with? ISTP is worth considering though.

Because that was the result I got from the test. lol

The examples I have given of my behavior was for the purpose of typing me as either e or i... since... I don't think I'm the typical introvert. I'm actually pretty eccentric but I've learned how society reacts to that. So, I've tried to be more aware of hidden social rules and etiquette's. And... I realize how people have shorter attentions spans these days... So, I consider that and keep my posts short. Plus, people don't scare me.

Anyway, yeah... I can understand why you won't see much N there. :o

But... I watched and researched about ISTP's. Umm. They seem so organized and action-oriented. Haha! I'm umm... far from that unfortunately. Though, I could be... if I tried. :borg: (although when I do decide to take action, I prefer to carry out my plans subtly. i think it is more effective that way.)

Anyway... if my intuition was low. I could always just develop it.
Would it convince you though, that underneath this rough sensing exterior lies an intuitive, if I told you I'm more into ideas than... details? haha

I'm aware of the limitations of typology (like everything else has). But I came here just to see if there's much difference between e or i, if it's possible to be both (although with me, I suspect that I just adapt depending on the situation)... that's why I posed it as a challenge. And you know. To see... lol just to see how things would go.

ENTP's are sometimes called the least extroverted among the extroverts :O

I think if you looked up the inferior functions you'd get a pretty good indication. It's extroverted feeling for INTP's, and introverted sensing for ENTP's.

Yup it's the same E/I dominance that recurs everywhere, and it's almost easier to pin down the inferior than the dominant sometimes I guess.

Nope, I made a general arguement and gave the example that might be interpreted as Fe. For instance, her immediately seeing and focusing how all the things work inside basically defines Ti.

I actually agree with this. Ti and Ne, imho.
Anyway, yeah... I can understand why you won't see much N there. :o
I see the N in your habitual use of the good ol' ...
I could make a strong case that you're a Ne-dom ENTP pausing to let your Ti catch up...

Hey, sorry for the late reply.

Have you given ILE a shot?
That is an ENTP in Socionics, but you would be ILE-Ti subtype, an extrovert preferring an introverted function. This may explain why you are so unsure.

Your first post reminds me of Richard Feynman. He was an ENTP. He too could construct things almost instinctively, he took risks and had interesting social interactions. There's a book where in his adventures are notated: Surely you're joking, Mr Feynman! It may help you in your quest, and it's also an entertaining read. It can be downloaded for free (pdf) somewhere.

INFJ. Only the INFJ can know the directive forces behind emotions, like you have presented in your post. (Specifically in the first few sentences. The only sentences I read btw..)

E.g. "Challange". You have learned that the INTP likes a challange. And therefor you present it as such. This is just 1 of the very many examples that can be made from your post.

Those usages are Directive (J). You do something in the external world with the purpose to move the external world to your (subjective - as you are an introvert) belongings. (You want other people to type you, so you use your intelligence to manipulate the world into typing you). This is very INFJ.

Yup. I've read it just now. I can relate to a lot of it too. I have read about ILE. I might research about the ILE-Ti subtype later. But what I have read so far are things that could be used to describe me. :o

I have a question though. How does that work? What do the "non-capslocked" letters mean? (I haven't had time to figure it out yet. I had a vague idea of how it might work. But if ENTp/ILE=ENTP... then my idea was incorrect.) I just noticed there's no sadface emoticon here. lol how am i to convey my feelings then? haha jk If I can't be sad... then I'll be cool.:smoker:

God. This guy is amazing.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kS25vitrZ6g

It's funny cause my mannerisms are similar to that when I'm talking about something of interest. (like man... do you know how impossible it is for me to be here right now? But I'm here. I'm like a mass of atoms... thinking, perceiving the universe and stuff like that) Haha! Anyway, he's not too specific which I like very much. I imagine a person who has minimal grasp of physics(or just science in general) will be able to understand what he's talking about.

But anyway... I am just as amazed by everything as this guy is... although it's sad that not a lot of people I know share this. Oh whelps. Thanks, I'll look for his book... somewhere.... :>

Interesting for you to have noticed that.
But umm how did you arrive at that when you have read just a few of the sentences?

I wonder what else you think points to me being an infj. :)

^ oh I see you have met own8ge.

He is smart and sophisticated and definitely a CRANK if you ever called an Ni dom a crank he is it.

He has his own typology system which resembles the MBTI, and is compatible with the MBTI, but is not the MBTI.

He might type you after 3 sentences, or after 20+ visitor/private messages..... but no matter what, he's going to call you an INFJ, first.

I am not sure if there actually is a specific description of each subtype on the net. ILE-Ti basically means ENTp that uses Ti extensively (like always looks to the potential causes behind things, how things function inside). If it is a case that an extrovert prefers an introverted function, there may be some confusion about I/E. Everything fits in your case.
In Socionics, the last letter describes different thing than in MBTT. In MBTT, it tells you if your perceiving or your judging function is extroverted. In socionics, it tells you if your first function is a perceiving or a judging function. Therefore the lower caps, so the two are differentiated.
So basically, to go from MBTT to Socionics, switch P to j and J to p in introverts.
Switch P to p and J to j in extroverts.
So yea, ENTp is the substitute for ENTP (ILE is another socionics notation based on functions directly). But remember, Socionics and MBTT are two distinct theories, we may find close substitutes, but you cant be both ENTp and ENTP.

But yea, ENTp-Ti is my final guess here.

P.S. Emoticons do need a bit of reforming here. But there are some cool ones.

Just no Own8ge theres no N'ness, but theres no sign off inferior Se at work here. In fact the careless nature of the OPs actions indicates a lack of care for direct sensory impressions and their consequences. That in combination with N'es equals Ne, with Si in the inf position.

Yeah... I haven't found any detailed description on ILE-ti yet. I got to do more thorough research. However, I really identify with the descriptions I've found on ILE's. So that's good. There's a description there that I found a little funny though. It says ILE's have a tendency to bring disorder or something. It's weird cause I once nicknamed myself "shiva" (supposedly the god of destruction). lol Cause, you know, I'm havoc-causing at times.

I've been reading a lot about typlogy. There's so many people that seem to be confused or unsure about their types too. So... I think, it's better if I just say... I identify most with this type "ENTp/ILE" in socionics| "ENTP" in MBTT at this time... than permanently categorizing myself by the textbook description of one type.
Cause I'm still pretty young. As I become more self-aware... I might realize a few more things and my type could change. Is that possible?

But it's incredible how people could type you... with just few information given. Truly cool.

and yeah... thanks for the lesson about how the small caps work. haha! now i know

There are certain age periods in which functions develop:
1st - 0-7
2nd - 8-16
3rd - 17-25
4th - 35-55

So, based on your age, not all features of the functions that are yet to develop are available currently. ILE-Ti and ILE-Ne have basically the same description except that ILE-Ti develops Ti as a dominant function and uses it as a dominant function (or this at least is mostly the case).
You cannot change your type, even though in different situations in life which are quite unbalanced for you, you may show signs of some other functions, but these are hardly the times for objective introspection.
