I have a feeling someone is going to DDoS Google.

With this whole new comment system. I wouldn't be surprised if someone gathered their fellow neckbeards and lay siege to the place.

For quite a number of years now I've had nothing negative to say about Google; they've often wowed me with their innovation and top-notch, free services.

However, their recent insistence on pushing Google+ on to everyone makes me seethe, especially since I actually disabled my G+ account and deleted all content quite a while back... only to find that Google had, in fact, stored everything in their databases and regurgitated it all without my consent. Also, keeping records of my search results / uploaded pictures etc from ~ 2006 is not cool.

Frankly, they can go forth and fuck themselves.

Exactly what I feared.

They've been right by me so far, it's not saying much but still.

Database management is a tricky thing, generally you're more concerned about data loss so when it comes to actually getting rid of data for good you have to be sure it isn't backed up somewhere, because it will be, and in company as large as Google getting everyone to agree to delete the data (because no one person will have full access) can proceed with goverment like efficiency.

If it really bothers you be persistent, their business model is all about being liked by people and having people want to use their services, as I know from personal experience in retail customer dissatisfaction is avoided at all costs, so if you persist they will give in, simply put a thread exactly like this does far more harm than keeping your data against your wishes could possibly be worth.

They're not stupid y'know.

I imagine DDoS'ing Google would be quite a challenge.

I suppose it was inevitable, what with all the time they spend getting into nets and out of them.

I don't see anything wrong with the comment system. In fact, I think it's much more organized now. Google plus is also an excellent product that I think deserves more attention. The only reason it's failing(or so I hear) is because of traditionalism.

It was a lack of options relating to privacy which put me off. It may have changed now, but back when I used it you couldn't so much as fart without it updating everyone and their dog(s).

there's no rating on comments and when you click "in reply to" it just opens a new identical tab instead of directing you to the specified comment

EDIT: well whaddya know, it's all back in place again!!!

I think this is a case of internal structure leaking. Companies that manage tons of data always need to optimize; the trick is to make your restructurings seamless to users, and that's where they screwed up this time. Remember that YT was built by a small company and later bought by Google, so the system was probably not designed according to their standards and they may have been holding everything together with duct-tape up until now.

It seems that profiles can still be separate, but they are all under the G+ system, which is a very good thing from a technical / management standpoint. The problem is this isn't very obvious to users. The only thing that is obvious is that G+ is mentioned constantly and there are circles everywhere.

I hate the new comment system. I really hate it. And what is the best thing? It works like it is programmed (Stollen/modified) by a script kiddie....

But one thing, I can't forgive is that they forcing us to use it. They don't give us a choice....
