Not too long ago, I discovered the existence of those two things and managed to induce it on two occasions. The first time I was lying on the couch by the front door and was right on the verge of sleep when I heard the door open and strange voices coming into the room. This was very disconcerting because I wasn't expecting visitors and the door was locked, but while trying to rouse myself and see what was happening, I found that my body wasn't really responding to my brain. It took a huge effort, but I did manage to raise my head, at which point all the sounds ceased and I saw that the door was still shut and locked.
The second time is a little more difficult to explain. Same circumstances -I was on the couch, nearly asleep- but this time I heard a voice behind me that seemed to be making a constant "ahhhh" sound from some distance away. Then the sound started shifting between my left ear and right ear with a Doppler effect and approaching me, growing louder, very rapidly. I had this sense of deep dread that when the source of that sound reached me, something terrible was going to happen, but I managed to fight through the paralysis before it did and the sound stopped.
Has anybody else had experience with sleep paralysis or hypnagogic (or hypnopompic for that matter) hallucinations?
