Couple examples from things I have given money to or at least thought about giving money to:

Wikipedia
Mod authors to mods of my favorite mods for my favorite games
Non-Profits (good ones like world vision, not shitty ones)
Homeless people (not those fakes that hold signs up from 9-5)

How likely are you to give to things that you believe in their cause/product/perdicatment?

I give money to street musicians
Recently sent money to my favorite comedian Sam Hyde
I would be prone to give money to beggars. It's just that Sweden is teeming with Romanian professional beggar parasites, so you develop an automatic aversion to it.
If I start making big $ at some point, I'll probably give a good chunk to medical research

I have donated to Wikipedia a few times. I also tend to donate money to engineering organizations such as Society of Automotive Engineers clubs, because they actually accomplish important things critical to revolutionizing certain industries and they don't fuck around with university funds (its all tax deductible anyway, so I don't lose much). I also plan to donate money to promising research projects, particularly regarding A.I, space travel, and biological physics.

I never donate to charity because I think they are inefficient and I also don't really care about starving African children. To be honest, I think the world would be better off with less people. That sounds really callous, but historical mass deaths actually led to better quality of life for the survivors (not by war, obviously). Of course, I will never advocate for the deaths of people I know, but it is easier for me to advocate the deaths of people all over the other side of the globe. (Although I will never condone mass deaths, though I do prefer that populations don't rise further than it already is.)
