Hi

I tested out as an INTP many years ago, so I'm going with that, even though I believe I may have gotten a different answer when I took the MBTI a few years later. One thing I know will never change is the "I" part. Believe me, I've tried. Ain't gonna happen.

I'd say the area of most volatility is between the "T" and the "F." That may just be a function of time, though. When I was younger, I had no idea what emotions were for, even though anyone who knew me would probably say I was ruled by them.

Anyway, after years of believing that I was insane, I'm now much more comfortable seeing myself as an INTP, though the two seem remarkably similar at times. ;) Overall, though, I now just feel like I'm in the land of the living. It's a nice feeling.

For those of you not familiar with Looney Tunes, Michigan J. Frog was a frog who sang Tin Pan Alley tunes, but only for the individual who discovered him. When the character who "finds" Michigan J. Frog tries to make money off of him by getting him to perform in front of a crowd, the frog goes mute.

That's how I feel. I have lots to say, but when someone trains a camera on me or tries to stick me in front of a podium, I freeze. I only want to perform for people I'm comfortable with. I know public speaking is important, and I'm working on it, but I'm only going to do it if people accept me the way I am first.

Anyway, enough about me. I don't know what I'm going to use for an avatar. I'd use the still from the cartoon, but I don't want any legal trouble from Warner Bros. All suggestions are welcome.

Nice to be here.

Legal trouble? Pah! This is the internet! You do whatever you feel like regardless of copyrights!

Also, welcome to the forum.

Since you're a new INTP here, I'm running an experiment that I could use some input on.

Type "banana hammock" into google image search; but be sure to remove the search filter. Let me know your results, but be sure to describe them as best you can; this will help my research greatly.

Thanks in advance.

Yeah, so, um, I did as you requested, Reluctantly. If I had to sum up what I saw in a phrase, I'd say, "A lot of pictures of mostly guys giving themselves wedgies, and a couple of them looked like they were in Devo." :walkout: I look forward to reading your paper on this. Let me know if you need help putting everything in the proper APA format.

No, but seriously, everybody, thank you for the warm welcome. I think I'll take a look around.

Just found a Web page I saved 16 months ago from when I had to take a personality test in a management class. It said I'm an ISFP:

  • 89% I
  • 12% S
  • 12% F
  • 33% P

Not feeling too terribly awkward admitting it, actually. I've always felt that, for me, the I part is essentially an immovable object, and the P part is nearly as stable. Also not very shocked about the F part, as the T/F axis seems to fluctuate a lot for me. The S part was a little surprising, as I've always considered myself pretty oblivious to the outside world.

yah I feel somewhat similar on the F/T trait

I caution people often not to confuse "preference" with "ability"

your ability can increase over time on all traits, but I theorize that the preference stays relatively stable.

the feeling of insanity you mention could be due to the lack of INTP's in your life (as INTP's are rare); when you can't find people to relate to, it makes you feel weird/odd/out-of-place.

I have made a very concerted effort as of late to relate better to people who aren't like me. It has generated major benefits, and I don't expend as much energy doing it as I used to, but it is still a drain, nevertheless. When I am around someone who "gets" me, I feel like I can breathe, relax, let my guard down, whatever. It's almost effortless. Sometimes, it takes years to develop this kind of relationship; other times, it happens almost instantly. But, yeah, it doesn't happen very often.
