Hi all! I was into MBTI a couple years ago but I was never terribly serious about it until recently when I've been researching it like mad. I'm an INFP myself. Most of my friends are IXFX types but I've recently been making more friends with IXTX types and I've been looking for a new online community to chill with and during my personal research of MBTI I kept coming across this site :D. So I figured I'd join up 'cause ya'll seemed cool.

As for myself there's not much to say. I identify as genderfluid and prefer the pronouns "they/them", I'm an amateur musician/writer/poet who's currently working on a cyberpunk post-apocalyptic dystopian novel that was inspired a lot by transhumanist philosophy, an experimental electro-punk band called Bad Pussy, and trying to organize community action jawns.

In case you didn't notice I'm from Philadelphia :3

I've written a lot of songs but few of them ever make it to the recording stage. Most of my songs have either never made it past live or stuff I keep to myself like my private noise jawns. I'm hoping to change that with my current band, though. I've only very recently gotten the resources I need to record which is a relief because I have a backlog of songs I want to put to press.

Yep that can be a motivation in itself. I had a cheap home studio I had to sell when moving country, now I just have my phone to record into which is sort of demotivating when it comes to finishing ideas. I see you just created a Music Thread, I will post in there if I have any further questions.

Hey there, and welcome. :)

Did you see the movie "Her"? If so, what did you think of it?
(I just watched it last night, so it's on my mind.)

I'm about two hours from Philly (down in Baltimore). Used to live in Harrisburg and York, though. And went to school in Easton (ABE area, to your north).

I saw "Her". To be honest I was really high and drunk while it was on and something about the rhythm the characters talked in made me feel really queasy and I ended up puking all over the floor, lol. But from what I remember I was fairly unimpressed if only because it seemed to me like a retread of the popular Manic Pixie Dream Girl trope except in this case the Dream Girl was a computer so I can't say I was a fan. Everyone else I watched it with seemed to like it a lot, though.

Also in the last year I was in a trashy punk band that became known for going into coffee shop open mic nights and doing inappropriately acoustic covers of stuff like "Wonton Soup" by Lil B or "Cum on Feel the Noize". That was a lotta fun ^.^

Post it when you get something recorded. I want to hear it (and other people do too, I'm sure :D)

(No one's made a Fresh Prince joke yet? :slashnew:)

Well, I thought it ran a lot deeper than the "dream girl" trope -- that's more something a person would glean from watching the trailer than the actual movie, once things settle in; but then again if you were out of it at the time, you might not have noticed nuances.

Maybe at the very beginning it can seem to fit a cliche, but there was a point where she actually becomes more real in some senses than Theodore and he's now her "object" if anything and she's more substantial... and she's looking for more. And along with exploring the ambiguities in relationships that exist between any two sentient beings, it raises a lot of interesting questions about AI vs human beings, how quickly they might transcend us, where that might take them, the impact on humanity as a species, etc.

I don't know anything about the Manic Pixies, so I wouldn't recognize that trope.

That actually sounds like a lot of fun. ;)

That's fair. I'll admit I was pretty out of it and wasn't really watching I was just inexplicably horrified by the way the dialogue was occurring.

My jawn deals more with the Singularity as an event of becoming more than human. It was partially inspired by a review I read of a George Bernard Shaw play wherein the writer interpreted Nietzsche's ideas of the "ubermensch" as meaning that the greater a man becomes the more they come to scorn common men.

What is a 'jawn'?
