Hi, just joined after lurking for a while. I first took an MBTI test about 3 years ago in an English class, but ambivalence about my answers prevented me from taking the results too seriously despite my teacher's insistence about the accuracy of the MBTI. But I know myself a bit better now, and I've identified with so many of the posts and comments I've read on this board. These factors have driven me to put more stock my results (INTP, just to clarify), and I've decided to actually start posting.

I'm 18, grew up in Oregon, female, secular. I recently graduated high school, but right now I feel a little lost, and I really don't know which direction I want my life to go. I am passionate about science and the scientific method, and while I particularly enjoy studying biochemistry I like learning about any and all fields of science. I love literature, my favorite authors are Vladimir Nabokov and Albert Camus. I quite enjoy 420 fun, and have experimented a bit further as well. I also deeply enjoy video games, some favorites include Chrono Trigger (the first and - probably to a great extent for that very reason - best game I ever played), the Fallout series, and Grand Theft Auto IV.

While I prefer and enjoy solitude, I'm much more social than I used to be; I have a lot of (carefully chosen) good friends with whom I enjoy spending time, even if I can't always understand them and they can't always understand me. But I almost always prefer being alone over being with someone else. I love travel, I've been fortunate enough to travel quite a bit already and fully intend to travel much more in the future. Other than biochemistry, anthropology is probably my favorite thing to study, and travel affords me a lot of insight into other cultures: their norms, values, social expectations, history, physical environment, and so on. I often like to speculate to myself about how these factors influence each other and manifest themselves.

I don't really know what else to say, although I guess I've said quite a bit already. I'm really looking forward to interacting with other INTPs!

Thanks! The haiku is actually Zaishiki's death poem (jisei). Some more Japanese death poems can be found here, or in Yoel Hoffman's book Japanese Death Poems which is more or less the authoritative collection for the topic. I really recommend checking them out, of course it depends on personal preference but I find that they often tend to resonate with me.

hmm before even reading all of this, i read the first sentence and unconsciously knew you were female..hmm wonder why. Probably some kinda of subconsiocus differences between male and female written text. Cool you just graduated highschool too. Im in college now and have no idea what to excpect. College baseball is kinda boring and though im atheletic, i hate those athelete jock kids that are douchebags. Im a fukin weirdo...welcome to this forum. Theres only like 4 people on at a time, so its kinda slow here...or at least thats what ive learned from the past 3 weeks ive been here,

I knew she was female just from the name. Well... not really. I assumed she was, however. "Citronelle" sounds uncannily female.

Thanks for affirming the fact that I have far, far too many interests.

Thanks for the welcome! Whether or not I can actually follow through and became a relatively active member remains to be seen... but at least I started out with good intentions? Right? :elephant:

She's a mosquito repellent!

I actually wasn't aware of the mosquito repellant Citronella before I made my username! Citronelle is the French term for the Southernwood plant (scientific name Artemisia abrotanum). And it does sound feminine, maybe because the suffix "-elle" is the French pronoun for "she".

i read the first sentence and unconsciously knew you were female..hmm wonder why. Probably some kinda of subconsiocus differences between male and female written text.

I have noticed some subtle differences between gender in written text myself, although such differences aren't usually consistent. This is a really interesting article about male-female communication that I really recommend taking a look at if you're interested in that sort of thing. Personally I'm extremely wary of literature, academic or otherwise, that discusses gender differences as I find they tend to be shockingly biased and way overly generalized. I found this article pretty thoughtful and reasonable, though, and the authors acknowledge that their observations are generalized tendencies that might be culture-specific.

I hope you like the forum the last person to join ended up drowning I think... but it's all good now.

How encouraging... I'll take it in stride though :)

And finally, as for the cake, well... not too sure what to do about that. Would these cupcakes decorated to resemble different video games suffice?

If not, then...

Marijuana was mentioned, AND I AM HERE! :D

In all seriousness though, your post made me think of how interesting smoking with another INTP would be. I've passed one with all sorts of typings, but never another INTP I'm sure.

Anywho, welcome from another poster/lurker!

Welcome!
You did not mention continuing your education. If you plan to do so might i recommend investing in a bit of study so that you can test out of your first two years (more or less)... Between CLEP and AP (at my school) I tested out of about a dozen boring intro classes and saved thousands of dollars by doing so. i prepped about 8 hours per course and passed the tests easily...

Thank you for the recommendation, think I'll go check that out :D

Haikus in general seem to resonate fairly well with me as I'm not really one for an over-abundence of words...

Yes that would be quite interesting... Unfortunately I'm not sure I've even met another INTP let alone smoked with them. Maybe someday!

I actually took a bunch of IB classes (like a weird version of AP) at my school, but I never tested in any of them because I hated the IB program... Now that I'm done with high school though I'm kind of wishing I had tested.

By weird I assume you mean retarded. It's offered at my school and only batshit insane people go into it.

...

Not really, but it is huuuge waste of time compared to AP.

Yeah, actually that pretty much is what I mean. Unfortunately my school only had 2 AP classes and about a bajillion IB classes. I was originally in the IB Diploma, but I realized what a complete waste of time and dropped it. So I ended up taking 5 IB classes my junior year and 4 IB classes my senior year... It was just awful, I mean I could probably write an essay about how stupid the IB program is, but I guess ultimately I learned a lot about bullshitting my way through basically every subject and assignment. My experience with AP (I only took one AP class) has been considerably better.
