I'm sure if you really thought about it, you'd prefer honey nut cheerios.

Welcome.

Nope. I just know that a good bassline can make any song good, so rather I should ask recommendations from you. I've never heard of Stu Hamm before, I'll check him out!

Primus ftw :D

Les Claypool's the man seeing him on my birthday :p

Not an inventive list but other leading Rock bassists would be Geddy Lee (Rush) John Entwistle (The Who) some go on about Dream Theater as well but i'm not that fussed on metal. Having said that Justin Chancellor of Tool is pretty inventive.

If you like Victor Wooten, then have a listen to Stanley Clarke (Return to Forever) and Larry Graham (Sly and the Family Stone) as there his influences. Jaco Pastorius (Weather Report and solo) is an obvious one as well. For double bass got to go with Mr Charles Mingus though... Yeah I play bass...

Hi and welcome. What does your nickname mean? It's very similar to the swedish word for death, 'Döden'.

^Yeah that was the idea. Embarrassing as it is to admit, I hadn't realized I spelled it incorrectly. I'm learning Swedish and know the rule for double consonants but was sloppy in the execution.
Jag är så slarvig! :cat:

Puffy, I'll definitely check out Mingus! I play double bass but don't know of any double bassists, so that'll be fun to hear. That said, I think The bassist from Dream Theater is a great player. Whyyy can't they just be an instrumental group?

Lost in my thoughts
I'm gonna second that recommendation for Jaco Pastorius playing with Weather Report - a lot of their stuff is amazing. I think you should also check out Medeski, Martin, and Wood - they're an instrumental trio (keyboard, bass, and percussion...but one album has them working with a wicked jazz guitarist) that has some pretty good stuff (I recommend the albums Out Louder and Notes from the Underground).

Oh, and welcome to the madhouse...;)

That's interesting. Why are you learning Swedish? Do you have some personal connection to the country? To be perfectly honest, it's probably not the most useful language to learn as Swedes are rather good at english, at least I think so...

Oh cool how long have you been playing?

Yeah theres no denying they're great musicians, you've hit the nail on the head though I don't like the singer he's too much of the stereotypical heavy metal singer. That's just my opinion though.

Havn't heard of them Jaico but I will be sure to check them out!

Vegard Pompey: Jag gillar svensk musik, kultur, och natur. Jag tycker mycket om språkets melodi, också.
I'm actually not sure where I picked up this liking to Sweden, but here I am. Yes, Swedes are excellent English speakers, but they should also be more proud of their language's beauty. I'll be annoying and insist I speak their language in Sweden, as it should be!

Puffy: I have been playing for around two years now. I actually just came back from a concert, which I think went well :)

Vad du ser som är så underbart med Sverige, har jag nog länge sedan vänt ett blint öga mot.
But there is a lot of great prog from Sweden at least, and you seem interested in that stuff. I'm trying to think of some with Swedish lyrics... There's Kaipa, Trettioåriga Kriget, and on the hard rock side of things; Råg I Ryggen and November.

I'm actually not sure where I picked up this liking to Sweden, but here I am. Yes, Swedes are excellent English speakers, but they should also be more proud of their language's beauty. I'll be annoying and insist I speak their language in Sweden, as it should be!

Swedish is alright; At least I'm glad I'm not Finnish.
