With that said, I wonder how many INTP mothers we have here.

I wonder if SpaceYeti would say, "Your mother." He has to wait till father's day.

:D I've been extremely spoiled today: first school pictures for my twins, got to sleep until 10, husband actually cleaned the house and made me breakfast and I'm going to look at photography equipment to get for my new painting projects (I got offered permanent spots at 2 galleries). Life's good

I'm curious as to how well thoses thought go over with an INFJ wife.

As an ENTP mother I'm less than impressed with the day myself, in part because I'm married to an ESTJ male who doesn't get it. Also I can do without alot of fuss/activity - it feels like pressure to enjoy myself.

Some are better than others. July 4th is a valid celebration.

I think that an even better celebration would be a day dedicated to the thinkers who made the modern republic possible. It would certainly avoid the strangeness of being annually entertained by mock warfare.

There's a few here.

Enter at your own peril :phear:

Oh, that thread's not THAT bad. ;)

I actually heard from two of my kids, unsolicited, today.... the boys, believe it or not. (My daughter's actually not around and doesn't have access to a phone, so that's understandable.)

Yes, holidays are "arbitrary" in the sense there was no reason for this particular day being chosen to celebrate this particular group of people. But it's not a bad thing to have a designated time to focus on a particular thing of importance, is it? It's not really an excuse to not value it at other times, or (at the other end) to do lip service towards things you don't actually care about at all; but setting aside a specific time to celebrate something you DO appreciate isn't such a negative thing. Just take the day for what it's worth.

Birthdays could be equally said to be stupid. After all, what practical, natural relevance (aside from driving age and drinking age, etc.) does a birthday even have? But it can definitely add some texture to life and give us a focus via which to reconsider our life journey and whether we've made the progress we've wanted and celebrate the things that we've enjoyed. It's arbitrary but useful and even meaningful at times.

Meh, I take any excuse to get crap I don't need, just to learn a new skill. Photography is not something I am good at yet I spent 3 hours playing with my new camera and messing around with lenses and researching techniques.

That's like, INTP heaven. And my husband even pretended to listen to me going on and on about shutter speed and watched me take the whole thing apart. That right there shows more appreciation than flowers and a phone call... So much artistic possibility O.o. It might appeal more to an INFP though than an INFJ.
