Did anyone else notice this?

I feel guilty about posting an entire thread about this, but for me it's huge. Sorta...

I must admit, i think times new roman is very dated by todays standard.
Is it Ariel? Helvetica?

I'd damn them to hell if their using Ariel. I don't think it's either one, possible verdana? I also know some texts vary depending on what browser you're using.

Me too, did you hear about the whole IKEA thing? I prefer futura to verdana but i obviously wouldn't want to read paragraphs of futura.

Yeah it does, Microsoft hired some Europeans to create ariel and practically everyone in the type world hates them for it.

I really like it too. I'm surprised to find anyone with typographic knowledge :)

If you liked futura, check out century gothic and avant garde they're very similar.

century gothic is old school now. I use small caps quite a lot and I like Orator Std for that. Calibri is also good in general use, not really paragraphs but Verdana is perfect for so much as is Helvetica

I like calibri a lot too, the serifs are really gorgeous. I haven't had much experience with oldstyle fonts like Orator. I've used Baskerville and Trajan though.

Trajan looks like serious news. It beongs on the side of a building or something.

What do you do that got you into font types?

Not only that, but visuals vary according to which operating system you are using. Linux distros can be bang up to date, supposing that you are perpetually stuck in the IT department of an Agricultural College in the Year of our Lord 1988.

OpenSuse is very disconcerting out of the box, and I not only install mssfonts --- it's legal --- as soon as possible, but then have to go around setting Times New Roman as the default for practically everything.

Seeing the title, I was thinking you meant the logo which is changed frequently: and the current one seems brilliantly witty to me.

I love pointing out Trajan fonts on movie posters to my friends, i always get weird looks. It's overused like Helvetica but it's mathematically perfect.

I just love typography, it's artistic but everything you make needs to be technically sound. It's also very little known to the outside world.

What about you?

@ Claver

Very true, Linux uses some beautiful fonts though. I've never used Linux but the whole open source community is very appealing to me. The barcode one is one of the better ones I've seen.

I followed the image link back and I'm now browsing (I know, I'm amazing)
