Halo 3 Matchmaking. Two teams draw, no experience is given. (I was just playing Mario Party 3, no coins were given!) =3 --- Why are we not rewarded in games if we earn a draw? Doesn't a draw by definition mean that all parties did just as good as the others? </rant> This rant lasted longer in my head...

Game designers have learnt the hard way that if any opportunity is given for the players to exploit the game mechanics to attain some advantage they will do it, a lot.
A tie were experience is given = everybody wins with zero effort.
This would cheapen the perceived value of the experience points.

Good game design is the art of making people like you for being an asshole to them.
Great topic :D

People will do the least amount of work for the most amount of reward. It's just human nature.

Ok, fair enough. I don't do that, so I wasn't thinking about that. I meant if both parties actually tried their hardest and still tied. I don't know, it's a moot point anyway.

Considering they are called "experience points" it's only rational that they should be rewarded for time spent playing, instead of by the player’s performance.
