Which MBTI type? He does not seem INTP.

Why not? He is surely a seeker for truth. But what other type could he be?

Mulder's quest certainly reminds me of an INFJ's. It's motivated on a personal level through his sister's abduction. His goal is to expose the larger truth and discover the smaller ones regarding his past. Ni is there, I think, but I could also imagine Fi being present.

Could an INTP not be motivated on a personal level if the emotions involved are extreme? INTP's do have emotion, and can be influenced by these emotions.
(This applies to any of the MBTI typing, however, not just INTP)

I was thinking that Mulder's motivation and reasons were inspired from his innate psychological structure, which should reflect his true processes well. His reason(s) do(es) not seem to be one produced from an INTX type's processes, but it is certainly possible. We have to use stereotypical classification when we approach fictional characters, because our observations of them are limited and they are not 'deep'.

Yes, that is well worth taking into consideration. I haven't much more to add to the discussion, however, as I have not even seen the show.

He seems too driven and focused on his one goal to be an intp. He is searching for truth, but intps seem to stereotypically have many things we are searching for understanding of. And he doesn't seem to be content with just exploring the possibilities, he wants closure with one specific answer. I think I'll call him an infj.

I'd say INFP. He actually tries to find some closure to his quests, especially concerning his sister, but I don't think the J's that strong: he's quite messy and doesn't seem to care much about rank and sticking to the established order.

mulder is by no means a J, imo.
he is completely unstructured, unorganized, uncaring of rules, and almost always plays things by ear.
i think the f is a possibility.
although im wondering why no one is questioning if he is an E isntead of an I

also, dont forgot that intps extrovert the F, so you may be reading him as an F when he may actually be a T.
as for N or S, there is no doubt in my mind that he is an N.
also, i think scully and mulder were meant to be opposites, and she is definitely a J, i am fairly confident she is a S, and i do believe she is an F, although t could be a possibility...

I see very well Mulder as an INTP. Nothing like a J type anyway.

I'm curious about Scully who would be a feeler though. It's the first time I read that.
