In movies and series the genius is always the most interesting character.
So let's list some good movies, series or even anime with geniuses or in other ways very intelligent characters. No death note! way too obvious ;)

I start with Walter Bishop from Fringe, awesome character.
Half crazy scatter brained and uninhibited genius with obsession of everything unnatural, foods and drugs :D

Sherlock Holmes of course.

The new BBC series is especially good.

Professor X(X Men), Dr. Manhattan(Watchmen), L(Death Note), Data(Star Trek), Edward(Cowboy Bebop), The brain(Pinky and the Brain), Frylock(ATHF), Stewie(Family Guy), Doogie Howser.

Real life, Nicola Tesla. If you dont already know, look him up. Most underappreciated genius in history imo.

a bit out of line, but i liked how ben browder in farscape get's to be the genius because (if i remember correctly, probably not) some aliens implant wormhole technology into his brain, sort of to use him as a portable drive. i like that, because the aliens keep implanting stuff into my subconsciousness as well. or maybe that's just the DMT in my mineal gland.

Ariel from "The End of Mr. Y"
Alice from "PopCo"
Both are the main characters from books by Scarlett Thomas. I am crazy about both of these books (I'm in the middle of reading "Popco") and I think both characters are INTP. I'm guessing the author is an INTP genius as well. I guess that explains why I like the books so much (I'm INTP, but not a genius myself, though :P )

Ender, Bean, Petra, Peter... the whole crew from Battle School - Ender's game
Someone already said Sherlock, so I'll go with Prof. Moriarty, and Mycroft, too - Sherlock Holmes

Data(Star Trek)

... Is it even possible for a unique computer to qualify for the term "genius"? I mean... what population are you comparing him against? It's like saying a rock is a vastly superior brick when compared to people.

Artemis Fowl. Somewhat a childhood hero of mine.

You have no idea how glad I am that at least somebody mentioned him :) .

As to the question:

Lelouch Vi Britannia from Code Geass

A very similar anime to Death Note, widely more preferred, even.

Holden Caulfield and Huey Freeman.

If Holden Caufield was supposed to have written The Catcher in the Rye (which he was – it was in first person), I cannot see him as being a genius.
