Amid all the discussion of Pness size (87th percentile. woot), I'm curious about Fe.

In particular, I find that music, especially a few specific songs that I actually keep buried deep within D: Drive because they're that powerful, bring about such a massive emotional energy that I feel I can literally do anything. It's basically like Fe completely jumps to the top of the priority list and overrides Ti, and all of a sudden I'm capable of something extremely demanding and painful (i.e. enduring a 2 week hunger strike) so long as the music is playing and I have a goal/target/enemy to confront. Things are generally well contained, but the mental imagery explodes, Ne has an idea orgy leading Ti around like a dog on a leash, energy level skyrockets, and all the good feelings of a dopamine release come to bear at once. Musicaine.

Basically, Si is my least developed function, and when I take function analysis tests, Fe and Fi both rank above any S, scoring at least double the value of any S. I know that theoretically, functions are used in a specific order of preference, but this is some powerful %&*$. Is it possible that Fi can "take the place" of Si and occur simultaneously with Fe, or is it more of a case where Si is preferred, but Fe looks huge because I continuously musically bitch slap it until it swells up larger than actual size?

I'm not looking for any really detailed answer, I'm just curious what's going on so that I can possibly better develop this thing and use it more advantageously.

My T/F is borderline, so I can relate. A situation or experience that causes F to "dominate" always makes me more energetic and enthusiastic, but it never lasts long.

You have an interesting interpretation of functions. I think your Si could still be more preferred than your Fe, even if Fe has been driving you everywhere. Fe or "F-functions" in general are like "motivation-functions." Motivation(or values really), I find, is something separate from function preferences. Here's a metaphor. Imagine all functions, Ti to Fe, as "toys." If you're INTP, then you're favorite toy is the Ti-toy, but Fe is a weird toy. It may not be so fun by itself, but it has "lots of candies" in it.

Not sure if that made sense or helped.

The concept makes sense (it sort of goes along with my bitch slapping theory).

From intp.org:
Where music really inspires is when the Si function is brought into the picture. Generally, INTPs are fascinated by atmospheres evoked by music... Ultimately, however, music forms a vital, central role in awaking the underdeveloped Fe shadow in the life of an INTP. It is undoutedly Fe that gives the INTP the life-spark to introduce a genuine sense of joy that music is experienced with. To the INTP, the role of Fe in music appreciation remains mysterious... The mystery of emotion is also evidence in the INTP's use of music. He always chooses to listen to music which suits his current emotional state, be it aggression, warmth, excitement, relaxation or whatever. Hence, the emotional state is assumed to be an unchangeable, mysterious property of himself. It is easier to choose appropriate music than to attempt to influence this. People with introverted Feeling, Fi,however, will deliberately choose to listen to music which helps them change and improve their mood. INTPs could never do that. They feel an unpleasant sense of disharmony whenever a music style clashes with their emotional state. Indeed, it is remarkable how much attention they pay to their emotions when music is involved.

I also use music as an emphasis on my feelings. Even when my current emotion is for instance happy and disorganized, if I can find a spark of motivation somewhere, I can emphasize this way beyond the happy and disorganized by listening to certain music. This is how I try to change my emotional state.

If there is no motivation in me I can try to get amped up by listening to certain music all I want, but all it does is make me feel uncomfortable.

So I'm really experiencing all 4 simultaneously (which would also explain why I constantly follow the rhythm with whatever body parts aren't being used by anything else at the moment). The magic of music is lyrical (Fe) and rhythmic (Si); less like cocaine and more like ayahuasca when DMT meets MAOI. I'm assuming this also plays a role in why I always have a song in my head, which should be Si generated as some sort of internal homeostasis mechanism... of sorts.

That last sentence makes no sense, but I can't think of a better way to word it atm.

This doesn't make sense considering that Fe is "extraverted" and Fi is "introverted."

Agreed, but now I think it's likely that instead of being Fe vs Fi it's actually FeSi vs Fi. In other words Fe+Si make up for what should be Fi.

It's also not as if we're completely deprived of Fi either, although Fi is apparently "smaller" in the stereotypical INTP. It could very well be FeSiFi in tandem.

IDK WTF any of you are really saying, but I did draw from it that Music has a way of altering your motivations and responses. I find that to be true of myself and music also.
For some reason, without music and especially in the presence of people noise, I becomes drained and ADD-like... But when I incorporate music to whatever I'm doing, it becomes easier to tackle. I have more focus, I look forward to the work, rather than avoid it. I think my Fi is utilized better when it has music by which to be influenced....Hope that was about right.. ?:kilroy:

That's right, except instead of Fi, it's Si. Si is all about rhythm, an internal, physical predictable pattern (as opposed to Ne, which seeks out external theoretical patterns).

And agreed. People noise=urge to gnaw off left arm.

The idea of "Fe+Si", at least from my personal yet technical understanding, is really just "data-based socio-emotional judgement." I don't see how that's related to "Fi" at all.

I also don't see how it's technically impossible for Fe-types to try and think like an Fi-type. I think it's just a simple matter of blocking all externally-involved valuations(which could be rather difficult for some people) and making way for personal evaluations.
I think my Fi is utilized better when it has music by which to be influenced....Hope that was about right.. ?:kilroy:
If it's "influenced", then, theoretically, it should be Fe.

That's right, except instead of Fi, it's Si. Si is all about rhythm, an internal, physical predictable pattern (as opposed to Ne, which seeks out external theoretical patterns).
Sure "Si" is all about "settings" but the only way I think that it could affect one's musical preferences is through "familiarization." If a song is more familiar to you, you would be more comfortable or you would prefer the song more.

I tend to agree with Words..

Ascribing functions to the effects songs have on a person is getting into extremely vague/muddy area - especially when trying to formulate from that an axiom that applies to the entire configuration. Of course we all personally know how music affects us, but the factors at work are far too many (and not limited to functions) to break down effectively..

imo o.o

I'm not saying Fi is related to Fe+Si in any way other than that it's present under those circumstances and possibly contributing to the effect. Presence doesn't mean correlation with any other functions, and correlation under this specific range of circumstances doesn't mean there is correlation outside of that range.

Sure "Si" is all about "settings" but the only way I think that it could affect one's musical preferences is through "familiarization." If a song is more familiar to you, you would be more comfortable or you would prefer the song more.

I'm not so sure about that last part. Si should play a major role in such familiarization, but I can say with certainty that for myself at least, familiarization leads to a certain discomfort and a definitely lower preference for that song. When I find a song that's worth listening to, it's fresh and exciting and I literally listen to it on repeat for several days straight; and then I can't force myself to listen to it again for several months. Even after that, eventually I simply just can't put up with it again and either skip it immediately or delete the file. In this case preference is all about the Si-Fe system, something like a binary star, that slowly burns out.

Agreed, but if I accept that then I'll have nothing else to think about... at least until I think about something else ;)
