Now I'm lost in some hellish malfunctioning pinball machine where I cannot escape the bumpers no matter how fast I pedal.

bah all these final fantasy VIII themes.. there is one problem with them, and that is they may actually convince you that FF VIII is a good game.. which is not the case : p .. the Themes are just lovely.

There is a soundtrack.. now I am not sure it's all fair to call it a game theme.. but still, I have gone completely addicted to it somehow ^_^

Ewww. I hated FFVIII. It was the only Final Fantasy that I put down and never went back to after a couple of hours of gameplay. The music, though, is certainly high caliber.

My favorites are Chrono Trigger, Chrono Cross, Final Fantasy Tactics, Final Fantasy VII, Final Fantasy VI, Secret of Evermore, Diablo, and Megaman.

I'm actually surprised that Megaman wasn't mentioned already.

Edit: Went back over the thread and realized CowSavior mentioned the Megaman X series :D.

Edit: Breath of Fire is also pretty great, and I haven't seen it mentioned yet.

It's sort of.....unpopular to say the least. It was one of the first games in which I became completely engrossed in the story, which is probably why I like it so much and can ignore the fact that the combat system was pretty bad in that game. I'm just really into plot driven games. There's games I'd rather watch someone else play, or just read about the story, as opposed to actually playing it myself.

Also, FFXIII wasn't so much a game as it was a movie.

That could really be said about any Final Fantasy after 9.

Fair enough. I usually get pretty into the stories myself, but even the setting of FFVIII turned me off. It was honestly an all around negative experience for me :P. I can certainly understand how it would appeal to others, though. I have several friends who absolutely loved it.

.

To be fair, Final fantasy VIII did pick my interest story-wise, through about half of the game.. there we had good music and a good story.. But as you say yourself the combat system was awful.. to be more correct it's the junction system.
Now when you are about half way and you start flying around in the garden and visit the moon etc, the game loses it's narative touch imo, and that leaves you with good themes and with a bad bad bad horrible bad junction system.. and that's not good enough =p

still the themes were good, and I refuse to take it back :kilroy:
