So, of those of you who drink beer, what's your favorite? Of those of you who don't like beer, which is the least intolerable?

My favorites are from a small brewery in southern Wisconsin called New Glarus Brewery (in New Glarus, WI, would you believe it?)

The particular brews I like are:
Uff da
Fat Squirrel
Spotted Cow

I also enjoy the Leinenkugel's Big Butt. It's like liquid rye bread.

I can't stand Heffeweitze, and wheat beers in general don't appeal. I like darks, and ales better than lagers.

Now this is a thread topic I can really get into! :D

I had a Belgian brew called Leffe on tap in England that I really loved. Also John Courage is a favorite. I like ales mainly. Too much hops can be a bit of a problem for me.

I really like that most regions in this country are establishing their own local brands. Viva la microbrewery!

if i'm drinking for taste, i like Samuel Adams Octoberfest and Boston Lager.
if i'm drinking for quantity, Coors Lite.

i've also had some kind of japanese beer once a while back, can't remember the name of it and i've never seen it anywhere again, but that was pretty good too.

i'm not much of a beer connoisseur though. haven't really tried much fancy stuff.

edit- what about liquor? anyone here a liquor snob? i've only had it a couple times, but Crown Royal is good stuff (as far as liquor goes). i can't stand any kind of Gin or Vodka, usually sticking to Rum or Whiskey (only ever had Scotch once, but i don't have the taste buds to see much difference from it to american or canadian whiskey).

Any local real ale. The hoppier the better.

I like Abbot ale because it reminds me of uni.

As for spirits (is that what you mean by liquor?) I'm not that keen on anything neat apart from dark rum and a really girly drink - Southern Comfort (sorry :D)

You didn't see the difference between the taste of scotch and canadian whiskey?!?!?
Can you taste the difference between broccoli and chocolate? Seriously, while I like both (scotch way more) the differences in flavor are to me, striking.

To answer your question, I don't drink very often anymore but my tastes range from tequila to ouzo (ouzo may not taste great to most but DAMN, what a buzz! Nothing like it) Do you find that different liquors give you a different buzz?

Southern Comfort (sorry :D)

SC ROCKS! Especially with sweetened lime juice and a bit of club soda.

Maybe I should go to a halloween party.

I'd rather drink Wilson Creek Almond/Pineapple Champagne though. As for wine I like a Riesling or White Merlot. Mmmm..

Haven't tried that one before. What a great excuse to have a drink on a Thursday night!

Uhm, my fellow students here would probably be ashamed, since my role would be to 'promote and defend' german beer here. But i won't, i am no beer drinker :p

perhaps the amount of alcohol i'd had prior to drinking the scotch affected my judgement (it was at an open bar wedding, otherwise i probably never would have had scotch in the first place).

Do you find that different liquors give you a different buzz?

yes. as much as i hate gin (as it was the only liquor the guy that bought for me before i was 21, which is probably why i hate it so much) gives me a very happy buzz (probably the only time i seem almost cheery, although gin gives me the worse hangovers), while whiskey i like to call liquid courage, because it makes me very confrontational. rum is a very relaxing (which is why i usually mix it with energy drinks, so i don't just fall asleep).

I wish I had an exact recipe for you (we just experimented with the mixology). If memory serves, the approximate mix most of us preferred was 2 part SC, 1 part sweetened lime juice (it must be sweetened if you can find it) and 3 parts club soda.

But experimenting can be fun :D

Actually, even though Shiner Bock is made in Texas, the town has deep German roots and its founder was from germany so it is like a German Texas beer.

I'm just glad you didn't try to promote Lone Star beer. My grandmother used to say they should pour that stuff back into the horse that pissed it.

German beer is supposed to be all that, but the best beers I've had are all from Wisconsin... I mean, common, the Baseball team in Milwaukee are the Brewers for goodness sakes! :D

Yeah well the WORST EVER beer of all time is also from Wisconsin. I'm of course talking about The Beast (Milwaukee's best). Even a horse has higher standards than to let that leak out of their bladders. A picture of a can of that stuff can and should be used next to the dictionary's definition of the word awful.

I have to second the goodness that is Shiner Bock and the badness that is Lone Star. The best beer I've had recently is the Helles Lager that Shiner put out to celebrate the 99th aniversary of their brewery this year (centenials are for losers). It made my taste buds sing, such a good beer. I see you're from H-town, NoID10ts, how'd you make it through Ike?

Still missing chunks of roof, half a fence, and we have nice big water stains on the ceilings. How about you?

Just lost my fence and had to do some temporary patching around my chimney. Fence is still only half built and need to call a roofer. Not too bad though, a couple of people I go to church with are from Bolivar.

take that depressing talk out of the beer thread!

speaking of depressing, i've frequently consumed Milwaukees Best Ice in the past. its just so cheap its hard to pass up. i guess my standards aren't all that high.

...i've had quite a bit of colt 45 in my day, too.

It's always funny when my roommates ramble about beer. There are many, many different beers in Germany (probably everywhere where beer gets brewed) and so they always discuss and argue which is the best.
(I wonder if the people who in these debates say that some beer tastes like horse piss actually know what it tastes like :p)

I know it doesn't, just my taste buds aren't refined enough yet to notice much of a difference.

And I'd beg to differ about Coke and Pepsi...

coke is banned. They are stealing the ground water in India and tacitly supporting the killing of trades unionists in Colombia.

See Mark Thomas' book: www.amazon.co.uk/Belching-Out-Devil-Adventures-Coca-Cola/dp/0091922933

or the youtube video: 301 Moved Permanently

If you go to the video you can get a great example of a London accent - not cockney (a la Agent Intellect's posting on the other thread) but London. Also he's a comedian and he has a funny story about getting into the US coming from El Salvador.

Nice video. He has a British accent so I will be inclined to believe everything he says, no questions asked! In fact, Nia, I have begun reading all your posts with Elizabeth Hurley's voice in my mind and I now agree with everything you say as well! :D

Elizabeth Hurley's cool. She has a slightly deeper voice than me but the accent is about right.

Actually, NoID10ts, I have noticed a marked tendency to agree with me over the past couple of weeks....either the accent must be working or...you don't dislike conflict by any chance???;)

I just saw this and you know that I am incapable of not responding. I'm just trying to lull you into thinking I've mellowed, but when you least expect it I will unleash my fury and then you'll know you're in trouble!

Plus its the accent.

And this thread makes me want to drink a lot of beer. But that has nothing to do with anything.

NoID10ts, you have not lulled me into thinking you have mellowed. There's a big difference between posting and reading a post. I am serioulsy worried about you but I am not getting into some banter about INTPness with you.

On the other hand, iIf you want a drink then maybe you ought to consult your INTPness as you seem to be relying a lot on this as a source of creativity and refreshment at the moment: I'll have a rum with a splash of INTPness if you please.

I do sound drunk a lot don't I? I swear I don't drink except on extremely rare occasions and I don't do drugs either! What kinds of things might I write if I was drunk? Would it be some sort of brilliant exposition on the nature of the universe?

Are you really worried about me? Why?

OK, now you're making me articulate a feeling. Not a good idea at this time of night.

You said once that people accused you of not knowing when to stop, of going too far. I get the impression that you're doing just that and that's just great because you've held yourself back for a hell of a long time. It's just that I worry about you because you've got no-one to talk to properly. So you push the boundaries on this forum and there's no-one to say, hey, come on, what's bugging you? That's what I would say if I were looking over your shoulder. Then again, you might tell me to piss off! :D

lol... honestly i do see what nia's talking about, and its legitimate. I hadn't thought of it that way before... but she's right. Not having anyone to talk to properly around you is deceptively unhealthy, and this is the kind of environment where no one would really offer to talk. On the other hand, I really don't think he's just pushing the limits on what can be said purposefully. I've never thought of the INTPness jokes as anything but glorious, immature fun.

but yea... at the same time, if you do need people around to talk about any more than to just blow off your INTPness without being judged for it, I think there're a bunch of people around here willing to listen. If not, though... you're a riot and we love you :p

Traditionally you would write such smilie like this: >:-D (Representing one with 'horns'). But i actually am fine with so little smilies. I had forums where there were up to a hundred smilies...Now that was no fun, because everyone would really overuse the smilies
The only one i am missing is one which eats popcorn and watches cinema (because, you see, that's what i do in the Pness-debates...:D)

Just keep your INTPness out of the popcorn! And grab your favorite beer. The INTPness really loosens up with alcohol.

(See how I brought that back around to the topic? Masterful.)
