Extroverted moments

I was thinking of what it would be like to be extroverted, and then I realized that I have actually experienced it before:eek:. A few times in my life I have suddenly become extroverted. It usually happens in environments I am VERY comfortable with. Some examples would be nerd parties(video games instead of beer) that I have been to and it has also happened at a weekend church retreat.

It is a very strange sensation and looking back, it was actually rather enjoyable(but I would never want it for my whole life) Saying things without even thinking through them in my head was interesting, and seemed to make me happier.

My question is...

Has anyone else experienced this without aid from some substance?

Does this mean my E side is fairly strong to be able to flourish when I'm comfortable?

I've had such moments (sober too!) but I can't say it has neccessarily been in cases where I was comfortable. On the other hand, I can't say they are random occurences either. As I've sat and thought about it, one theme that has struck me as a commonality in many but not all cases is times of leadership. Whether I've accepted the role voluntarily or had it thrust upon me, I become a different person in such circumstances. Other times however seem to be random. I can say that while I like the feeling, I'm glad when it's over.

I switch into the "J" mode when I've got work that needs to be done, however my "E" function remains dormant unless I've had lots to drink. I have experienced switching to an "E" mode when necessity dictated, however this is a facade that require enormous energy expenditure.

drinking aside, i certainly extravert (or extrovert, don't remember the difference) myself when speaking to people about topics that interest me (science and philosophy).

I've been to so many nerd parties too. And I am definitely extroverted there and agree with you when you say you wouldn't want to be like that all the time. Other than parties, I'm extroverted when I'm high.

I am not a very strong I to begin with so I easily switch to E when I am comfortable in a situation. I tend to prefer to be alone, but I am able to function well around others, and I can even be outgoing when necessary. My job requires me to be an ENTJ, so I make that change from 8-5.
When I get home I like to be left alone for several hours to recharge.

I used to be a very obvious E. Really. When I was little, I was utterly lost when I was alone. I always had to be with my mum, or my sisters, or my friends...so maybe that's why I can slip in and out of an I or E mode pretty easily. Since I have experience with it.
Or something.
Usually I try to exercise some E when I'm at school, because if I'm all introverted there, then the teachers and the students start to get edgy. Seriously. If I'm just dead set against being extroverted at all for a day, then I don't talk. By the time I open my mouth to say "Hey" to my cat when I get home (a habit), my lips actually feel like they're loosely glued shut. (Dried saliva or something. I dunno.)
I've been the two extremes: bouncing up-and-down extrovert, laughing and grinning like there's no tomorrow and an introvert who won't even look up if my name is called. Finding the happy medium is my goal. Still rocky with that venture though.
Um. What was my point again?
Oh. Yeah. I think that a lot of INTPs experience extroversion to some degree in varying frequency. Personally, I think it's either situational or a matter of manually forcing yourself into an extroverted mindset.
If all else fails, get a drink.

Yep , I've had some moments where I felt really extrovert. It was strange but it felt like my head was warmer than usual, like it was glowing. As fun as it was tho, it kinda made me nervous somehow. Like feeling out of place. Maybe that's natural since that's not every-day behavior.

I can be pretty talkative around people I've known for a longer period of time, it's not really extroverted tho. I usually try to annoyingly point out errors in people's logic or reasoning, or throw out some ridiculous statements to see how people react and hopefully start some sort of interesting conversation (Regular small-talk doesn't spawn anything interesting)

Sometimes when I'm talking more than usual I think it's extroverted already, but sitting in public transport with everyone having small-talk about all kinds of things and publicly discussing personal issues make me think otherwise. I guess my feelings are relative to my normal interactions.

I wouldn't say so. I'm a very strong I, and I've had my moments. Some of my finest moments socially was when I was in the following conditions:

- I was grouped with a bunch of people with the same interests as me, namely art, in a specialty art program

- My friends took the first step and invited me to go with them

- it was at night

- they were comfortable with their weird selves, and so was I

You could say I was very comfortable. Those people in the art program were some of the best friends I've ever had... We were always frolicking around down the street, art gallery after art gallery, saying and doing weird things and being our pure selves.

All without drugs! I managed to lose my meddling mind for a while and have fun without drugs!

My friends and I are so insane that we don't need to take drugs to lose our minds! We've already lost them!

I had some friends like that when I lived in Georgia. we were always walking around town singing and yelling some strange song (usually B.Y.O.B.) or at least setting something on fire, wrestling till someone starting bleeding profusely, or playing dodge ball. Those were great times. I'm sure everyone in that town thought we were addicts

The first time I went to a group science thing... it was weird. I just wouldn't shut up. It was like everything I had ever wanted to say to people my own age with my own intrests without the intervention of other people all came out. Needless to say, most people were very interested, until I had kept talking for about the whole meeting, then they sort of laughed while backing away slowly.

Also, when I was little, I went through a stage when I believed that everyone would be nice to me, and so I would run up to random strangers, especially other children, and introduce myself ("Hello!!! My name is ___ ___! I love to play tag! Do you want to play tag!?!?!?") After I started Pre-school, and started getting shoved in the dirt for my enthusiasm, that stopped.

Haha, Lan parties with beer and pizza rock. I'm very comfortable around people I've known for a long time (say...1 or 2 years?) and act quite extroverted when I do.

Surprisingly, I also love acting. I did an improvisation class for a semester and it was great. One of the scariest things I've ever had to do, sure, but fun.

Maybe I'm addicted to adrenaline because I also love rollercoasters and riding motorbikes...

My extroversion (is that a word?) comes out when I'm around people that I know appreciate my humour, and that I'm comfortable being myself with. As I've probably already mentioned, I'm extremely sarcastic, cynical and some may say "sick and twisted" when I'm being myself.
Seeing as how when I have the same 2 groups of friends I do everything with, I'm usually extroverted in public.

I did too take improvisation lessons... but only for a few weeks:p

Now one of my friends gives media lessons at local school, and we have some film projects we sometimes do. We have even taken part of one film contest, the house where it was held, was soooo full. So yeah, it's the adrenaline rush I'm after. And soon our next project is finished, I'd be happy if there would be another contest.
I don't mind to be in a spotlight when it comes to things I know I can do. I used to do sports for about ten years (fencing) and was quite good at it, so there was always people watching.

Acting does sound interesting. I just don't know where to start. I love reading plays and visualizing myself as characters I can identify with.

I imagine I'd have a hard time making my verbal and facial expressions apparent for the audience though.

Well, INTP's auxiliary function is extroverted intuition, so even an I can act like an E at times, it's just not preferred.

I know that when I'm confident in what I'm doing/saying, I can't talk for hours.

I'm actually the complete opposite of that. If someone tells me a role to play, I'll get into that mindset instantly. I find I'm really good at portraying different emotions and such.
Dang, all this talk about acting makes me long to do some acting D:

I love acting and do it many times at home but I can't, I just can't, do it well when I'm really being watched by people that aren't close to me. Since it happens to about everything I'm scary of talking to my class or even worst, the whole school. I think the only time I really felt secure and did well a presentation was for a Philosophy work.

When talking to old friends and parents I can be quite extroverted talking about a lot of things, at least, it's what I think because my friends say I'm always quite and just talk if someone talk directly with me...
