ENTP or INTP? Plus an introduction.

Hey all, so for around a year now I've consistently (with a few inconsistencies) tested as "ENTP." However, I can't help but feel more like an INTP (I know I'm an NT for sure).
I believe the first time I took it on 16personalties (I haven't taken a real one since they are pretty much the same thing) I was an INTP. Ever since it's been ENTP and I know when I took it the first time I was depressed (I was also on a leave of absense from college).

I can tolerate being alone for an incredible amount of time, my interests are: music, economics, psychology, fashion, psychiatric research, psychopharmacology, political science/political philosophy, technology/computers, questioning life's fundamental values, piano, arguing, drawing, graphic design, sociology, marketing, writing and business ideas

I dress rather preppy (I know INTPs are known for not caring about appearance, whereas ENTPs do care) as in Brooks Brothers, Ralph Lauren, Tommy Hilfiger and sometimes Vineyard Vines since it gives a very clean-cut style and my hometown is very New England-esque (it's near Connecticut but not in the state). I tend to obsess about my appearance and check myself out in the mirror (as in, looks. I'm not too keen on fitness but I'm of average build). I'm very interested in how things work and if I could be somebody who discovered something groundbreaking that would be awesome.

I plan to go back to my school in the fall to study neuroscience (the Bachelor's of Science program, along with pre-med courses) because in 12 years I hope to become a Psychiatrist. I know that a Psychology major along with pre-med courses would be typical for a future Psychiatrist but undergrad majors have no bearing on med school, plus neuroscience and psychology cross into eachother a bit (and neuroscience is still a budding field). I also have interests in pharmaceuticals.

Anyhow, regarding introversion vs. extraversion I'm neither. I'm probably an "ambivert" and I did throw a small party (6 people including myself) at my house last week... I don't think an INTP would do that. There isn't much difference between ENTP and INTP on the surface anyway. I'm also diagnosed with ADHD-C, Bipolar type II and anxiety but it's being treated (except for ADHD since stimulants were awful for me and my symptoms are basiclaly gone and my main diagnoses is bipolar II).

So, I don't know where I went with this post now lmao but what's up? PS. in my free time I love to research anything and everything.

Tommy Hilfiger? What sort of cheapskate stuff is that? I only wear tailored suits.

I'm joking. But I too care somewhat about my appearance. Although I don't care about brands, I only care about the style.

I think you have nailed down your type quite well OP.

I will say that an INTP with bipolar is really a rarity and based on this alone, I think its far more likely that you are ENTP over INTP. That's without considering you have ADHD as well.

An ENTP with bipolar can look very much like an INTP when they are in their depressed state. I know an ENFJ rather well who has bipolar - enough to know that bipolar rarely occurs in introverts, but it does occasionally happen.

Something you might consider on whether you are INTP over ENTP is whether you have social anxiety or not. If you have bipolar and ADHD, but you also have Social Anxiety, this leans me toward considering that you could be INTP instead of ENTP. But it sounds like you are perfectly comfortable with a group of friends so I would think it unlikely that you have social anxiety. My best friend who I talked about having bipolar as an ENFJ, absolutely relishes the idea of taking social risks. He does not have an ounce of social anxiety in him body.

So far I get that you think you are XNTP. I assume you are sure of your other letters. THat is you know you are N and T nad P. Ambiversion is sort of difficult word.

The thing is that introverts have extrovert traits and vice versa. Its likely that introverts will behave like extroverts in some cases and vice versa. It is very likely that introverts will have more cases of introvert behaviour.

I still dont quite understand extroversion and introversion in that I too typed my self XNTP for some time.

The thing is that extroverts thrive in an enviroment where they interact with others. This however doesnt always mean that they cant be alone for an extend period of time as most people think. Its false to think that extroverts dont like to be alone. It is also false to think that introverts are the only ones that can go solo and not get cranky.

On the other hand its also true that introverts can thrive in community, be charismatic and good with people. Its false to think that introverts are autistic asocial dummies.

However what you need to do is look at your general trends in behaviour. Your own inclinatiuons and common decisions you would make as to whether or not you prefer something like interaction with people or whether or not you prefer to do something alone.
The issue here is that many introverts think they are extroverts simply because they live a life where they cannot escape social interaction.

That is also the reason I think the number of introverts is under represented, because many introverts assume they are extroverts according to definitions.
Such as Id like to read a book instead of talking to people. Well if talking to people is more beneficial to you why would you prefer reading a book then?

It makes little sense. I interact with people all the time in my work, and its not because I am extrovert, but because I cannot avoid it. I simply cannot walk past a bunch of people that I work with and not say hi or talk to them if my job requires it.
It is also important to point out that while introversion is seen as bit of an oddity among extroverts in reality many introverts and extroverts get along fine. Commonly its something completely different that causes friction between people rather than introversiona and extroversion.
