Seriously, what is wrong with these people that feel the need to eat an animal whilst it is still alive? I think they must be suffering from some form of psychopathy.

Has anyone here ever knowingly eaten living animals (swallowing a fly doesn't count)?

OR! The opposite.

Enjoyment in the empathic experience of the suffering of the other and the sense of being in control of it. Playing the instrument that is the emotional experience of the creature being played in a fashion most grim. *mbwahahahahahaha* hashtag.vampireslash#jpgif

I've eaten live monkey brain. It wasn't as yummy as it was made out to be. Disappointing. I did enjoy the screams of pain and terror it let out as the top of its skull was removed. And as I sunk my knife and fork into the soft tissue of the brain. Good times.

If oysters could scream they probably wouldn't be such a hit in restaurants any more :phear:

There is something primal about eating a live animal. Something that the prehuman in me wants to do. Cries out for. I want to go on a mountain lion hunt and kill it with a spear and eat it. Heart still beating, and then wear it's hide. Primal as fuck!

But the only live animals I've eaten are bugs. grass hoppers, crickets, ants, a worm. Not too exciting.

there is a theoretical power gained from eating a live animal, but I doubt it's real power. Just something macho about it. But I would prolly have to kill the beast before eating it. Only eaten raw animal meat once. It was the best steak I ever had, though. Mountain Lion is sounding better by the minute

I still wake up sometimes, you know? ... I wake up in the dark ... and hear the screaming of the oysters.

As long as they do eat the animal and, if applicable, use the other animal parts then I'm cool with that. Predation is predation after all.

I'm more concerned about the health risk involved in eating live animals. Reston virus (Ebola "lite"), rabies and anthrax are naturally occurring in animals here and I'm not risking my life for such exotic fare.

Does Reston cause any actual symptoms in humans? Been awhile since I read about it, what I recall is that we avoided a total outbreak here in the DC metro area because it primarily was a "primate" strain vs human specifically.

Anyway, I agree that it creates potential health issues. As a side note, I think it's why some older religious traditions had prohibitions against shellfish, since they couldn't afford an outbreak.

That's just steam escaping through the gaps in their shell as their insides cook.
Which is worse than screaming if you think about it...

Delicious suffering.

Also in creepy yet delicious terrirtory did you know it's common practice to lobotomise salmon so they can be transported alive, it keeps them calm (as you can imagine) so the taste of their still twitching flesh isn't ruined by the "oh fuck I'm in shock from fear and pain" chemicals.

Edit: Now you know why sushi you get in western countries tastes so bland.

This seems somewhat idealized, I don't know if it would actually be so fulfilling in action as in thought. If you only had a spear, I'd imagine you would die a lot.

Not really. Humans are able to consider the pain of other beings and can act on those conclusions without risking starvation, in contrast to other animals who lack that ability.

Yup, it can be transmitted back to humans but the patient doesn't exhibit any illness. I've read that close call in a book called The Hot Zone (that book probably scared me more than other horror story). However, I'm still leery (WHO and CDC were also concerned) since we just got an outbreak last 2009. Viral evolution is quite unpredictable and I won't be surprised if Reston will go for humans instead.

Regardless of your personal beliefs, I believe that you'll pray to any available gods for deliverance after eating bad oysters. ;)

True, and we really don't know. In terms of evolutionary mutation, the viruses run through generations very quickly (we can evidence that just by the way we have to create new vaccines annually to keep up)... and who knows when something could jump in a way that we weren't expecting? Especially with the world becoming "global" (a carrier can pick up something indigenous to one country and transport it halfway around the world to a country which might not have inherent defense against it, within 12 hours), it's a bigger problem than even when Reston created a fuss.

The Hot Zone scared me badly too, it was just rather freaky; and I now actually live in the Baltimore/Wash DC Metro area. I go through Reston on occasion to visit a friend in Sterling and it kind of freaks me out. I also grew up only about 35 minutes from Frederick, MD, where part of that book took place.

Regardless of your personal beliefs, I believe that you'll pray to any available gods for deliverance after eating bad oysters. ;)

I solve the problem by just not liking seafood much. Aside from jumbo shrimp, I'm not sure what people get out of it; every so often I'll order fish or scallops or something else, eat it... then still feel unsatisfied.

I used to pretend that my animal crackers were alive and screaming for help as I ate them. :cat:

Why eat live animals when you can eat live plants? :twisteddevil:

In regards to ultimate power, there is nothing quite like hearing the screams of a hundred asparagus people, little fronds quivering uselessly, as you relentlessly march them down your gullet...
