I love this site. You should probably take it with a grain of salt, but it's interesting.

http://www.dreammoods.com/

You basically just search for things that were in your dream, and it will tell you what metaphors it might stand for.

Last night, I dreamt I was smoking quite a lot, so I looked that up, and, well, the description of smoking seems quite accurate of my current situation.

"If you do not smoke in waking life and dream that you are smoking, then it indicates that you are trying to shield yourself and others against your emotions. You have trouble letting others in. The dream may also be a metaphor for an addictive relationship or habit in your waking life."

Of course this is kind of like astrology, but with just a tiny bit more truth to it. And yes, everybody will have different interpretations and experiences of their dreams so this is definitely not some sort of magic all-knowing thing... But yeah.

I used to use this site a fair bit for fun. (:

Last night I dreamt of a pack of dogs that were climbing a tree; I could see them from my window. They eventually jumped down and went round the right side of my house, for some reason they had a giant tortoise with them. :P

Tortoise: "To see a tortoise in your dream symbolizes perseverance, determination, and longevity. You need to take some chances in order to get ahead in life. The opportunities for advancement are opened to you, but you need to take the next step. Alternatively, the tortoise represents the need to be sheltered or protected from life's problems."

Tree Climbing: To dream that you are climbing a tree signifies achievement of your career goals and attainment of higher positions in life. The speed at which you climb the tree will parallel the speed of your achievement of these goals.

Dog: To see a dog in your dream symbolizes intuition, loyalty, generosity, protection, and fidelity. The dream suggests that your strong values and good intentions will enable you to go forward in the world and bring you success. The dream dog may also represent someone in your life who exhibits these qualities. Alternatively, to see a dog in your dream indicates a skill that you may have ignored or forgotten. If the dog is vicious and/or growling, then it indicates some inner conflict within yourself. It may also indicate betrayal and untrustworthiness. If the dog is dead or dying, then it means a loss of a good friend or a deterioration of your instincts.

I can't be bothered to go into all the symbols as you'd need to, it sounds like an aspect of myself is growing or something.

Been using that for years for my amusement. Though, sometimes I'd be like c'mon of course I'd dream of a flood, I am panicking about one in real life.

I get a lot of water and zombies in my dreams. Sometimes, zombies in toilets.

Stress and overwhemed with urges? Then you go ahead and justify it which is not hard.

Sounds good, Puffy 8)

Zombies and toilets... Lots of possible definitions for those two... Perhaps it symbolizes you feeling pushed into a corner, intimidated by a lot of people you can't escape from?

The interesting thing is, I don't smoke, and I really loved smoking in my last dream. I enjoyed it so much that I'm considering buying a pack of cigarettes. (Not gonna give in to that urge, though.) The pack I bought was purple colored, and the smoke was remarkably sweet for tobacco.

Sweet: "To taste something sweet in your dream suggests that life is going well for you. You are expressing your satisfaction with life. Alternatively, the dream may be giving approval to move forward with some decision or action. Sometimes, you need to indulge yourself and not worry about the consequences."

Purple: "Purple is indicative of devotion, healing abilities, loving, kindness, and compassion. It is also the color of royalty, high rank, justice, wealth and dignity."

So I guess my dream was telling me to get the fuck over with, do what I want, and stop worrying so much. Open myself up, go ahead and do stuff.

I support that interpretation of zombies. I used to dream of zombies a lot at a time I felt isolated by a large group - perhaps they represent others 'cannibalising' you in some metaphoric way?

I think our dreams are more straight forward in its own dream-logic way.

I started reading an article in SA Mind (I don't think I finished it yet). One theory is that part the reason we dream is evolution (like everything else). Because some parts of our brain can be shut off for a time period without danger to the host. Like our eyes. But there need to be some brain activity to take in sensory input in case of danger. And some of those areas make our dreams as well. Or so.

I think our dreams are affected by our feelings, but there are no advanced symbolism. If you are feeling anxious, you might have a small nightmare or a stressing dream.

I kind of agree Minuend.

But dreams do include things that you have recently noticed/done/felt, usually. So there's no magic in it, but it might give some information on what your situation is.

Killing
To dream that you kill someone indicates that you are on the verge of losing your temper and self-control. Consider the person you have killed and ask yourself if you feel any rage towards him or her in your waking life. Your dream may be expressing some hidden anger. Alternatively, you may be trying to kill an aspect of yourself that is represented by the person killed. Identify the characteristics of this person and ask yourself which of these qualities you are trying to put an end to.
To dream that you have been killed suggests that your actions are disconnected from your emotions and conscience. The dream refers to drastic changes that you are trying to make. There is a characteristic that you want to get rid of or a habit that you want to end within yourself. Killing represents the killing off of the old parts and old habits. Alternatively, the dream represents feelings of being let down or betrayed by someone in your waking life. You are feeling overwhelmed, shocked and disappointed.

I've been here before too.

Lighthouse

To see a lighthouse in your dream indicates that you are seeking guidance during a difficult and tumultuous time.

Never dreamed about a lighthouse before...it was a weird one to have, but tranquil when I had it. Though I barely remember my dreams anyway.
