Does anyone here have their own conlang?

A conlang is an abbreviation for an artificially constructed language. The purposes for designing one's own conlang are various. Some people may wish to enhance the atmosphere of a fictional universe they are creating, some may wish to encrypt private writing, such as a journal, and some may be trying to create a universal language to make mankind communicate more effectively.

Some famous and entirely functional conlangs are Klingon and and Tolkien's Sindarin.

Has anyone here ever tried, or succeeded, in making their own conlang?

To do so, you must design everything from your syntax, and grammar, right down to the alphabet. Though, the hardest part is perhaps formulating a vocabulary large enough to have a fully expressive language.

If you have one can would you care to describe it?
What do you use it for/ why did you create it?

I have my own private language that i use to conceal my more sensitive journal entries. It is based on a combination of english, french, and latin, though many cognates are drawn from mythology in order to make words, and some things are more literal than in english or french.

I tried it once, when I was a child, but then I found something more interesting (I guess) and I gave it up.

Though I'm really interested in your conlang. Is it that private or can you write a few sentences and their translations?

I'll give you a few simple things, though I warn you some of my words are frightfully derivative, and others are out right stolen from one of the aforementioned languages. Picture the syntax as something like a jewish Yoda (sorry if that's offensive).

Grammar wise I have three genders; masculine, feminine, and neutral (used for non personified inanimate objects not associated with either gender) Genders effect nouns and pronouns, not verbs in a sentence

Zaccri **** ve Cumber sa ji.
- I am Zachary ***** of Cumberland.

Craff aphrite pas craff mars.
- Make love not war.

Platis jeux ze pagga do ji.
- I love playing my violin.

Quart et Dix ve lunarum lit sa.
- It is the fourteenth of the month.

If something seems odd, I can explain it further.

I remember one time listing all the ways I could ask or answer who, what, when, where, why & how, then came up with a word for each, with further variations for each way each could be asked or answered, so for example why was "nuhl" (sounds like "null" but you breathe in as you say it so it's more like "nool" but a "heh" inflection, hard to explain) then there would be a bit added to the end like "nuhl-la" or "nuhl-ley", for respectively "why is" and "why was". The idea was that I could speak very quickly and without pause (breathing in on some words) so I wouldn't trip over my words like I do in English (my brain running faster than my mouth) but I kept running out of script and pausing, which makes me think English is the way it is so people can think as they speak and I've since improved upon that.

Also some sentences had me hyperventilating :o

Well, language ideally strives to be both utilitarian and varied and complex enough to be fully descriptive. In early attempts at conlanging, many people tend to do things which are too overly complex, confusing, or arbitrary to actually work. This can most often be seen in these people's attempts to reform or build an alphabet. Often they end up adding redundancies or other annoying complexities.

My cousin and I wanted to start a code language when we were young. I had an idea for a manual / codebook, but we only came up with one word.

Yes. (Though I would argue that all languages are constructed through similar paths, and 'artificial' is misleading. Especially when you consider what memes (i.e. words) truly are. o.o)

I use it for private dialogue with my mindmate. It has elements of latin, spanish, irish & sindarin. Mild influences of english, japanese, welsh & vulcan. Presently with all forms included it'd add up to some 2,300 words, but only some 300 root words atm (& growing).

We decided to make it gender-neutral, having things like a 3rd person singular gender-neutral pronoun. Verb tenses is done through vowel transformation, and the syntax is similar to spanish, with mostly latin/irish/sindarin-inspired vocabulary The alphabet is under construction but will possibly resemble bengali.
