Why does everyone hate Clara? I think she's the best companion the new Doctors have had so far.

She's too perfect. Generic personality. General annoying personality when talking to or about the doctor. Basically a Deus Ex Machina character, that distracts from the doctor's abilities.

It's not really her fault though. The crappy companions started when the show stopped being about the doctor and started being about the companions. Amy Pond was the beginning of the end. In it's own right, those story arches aren't bad. But compared to the writing during Tennant's episodes, they fall short.

But I sure did love Matt Smith. He made it worth watching. Rory was kool, too. Too bad he had terrible taste in women.

How? Amy pond is great. Neither her nor Clara have generic personalities, Clara has a short temper, is a control freak and very sharp. Amy was stubborn, sarcastic etc...Don't know what you mean by generic. I like the companions though. I also liked billy piper.

That's a character archetype. It's annoying in real people, and it's annoying in a companion. She's Amy 2.0. And all the retcon they did so they could force her into the story. And that one facial expression. She's not a good actress.

Amy is just a total bitch. She's mean to Rory, she's mean to the doctor. And Moffat basically made the show more about her and less about the doctor. I was ok with her for the first story arch she was in, but every episode with her after that was painful.

And all this River Song bullshit. It was so forced. I didn't mind her as a tertiary character, but as the doctor's wife? I didn't buy it when it was happening, and in retrospect it still very forced.

But I'm a fan of the old series. So I have a bit of a bias. I like campy.

Clara seemed...useless... in season 7 and had no other function than being a helpless little goldfish that added femininity to the story and boosted the Doctor's ego. I'm liking her better in season 8 though, Twelve has proved himself at sucking in the area of emotions and she is able to balance him out well.

She exhibited typical male behavior, the humor of making fun of each other’s shortcomings. When things get serious however she shows a deep respect for other people.

She's mean to Rory...

Rory deserved it. They don't normally have sidekicks like Amy because they want non-NTs to be able to relate to a character and the show. That is why they have characters like Rory and K-9.

Ok I think I'm onto something. For those people that don't like Clara, do you happen to like any of these characters from Game of Thrones: Eddard Stark, Ned Stark or Jon Snow?
