Do you have a eternal motto, a phrase or quote that you live by?

I'm thinking about adapting the motto:
"If I don't have to do it, I won't. If I have to do it, I'll make it quick" from the show Hyouka

"I'm Different" - 2 Chainz :

Beat it up, beat it up, then I get some head
Well I might get some head, then I beat it up
I don't give a fuck, switch it up, nigga live it up

....lol

I believe the popular youngster term is "yolo."

Since I'm trolling:

In regards to your signature:

Life is incluusive of death and everything inbetween, the same can be said with death because it infers the previous (inbetween) and life. Ergo it's one thing: life.
Thaat is: Life: birth - alive - death; the term already holds everything.

I have a friend who adopted this thing, whenever he needs to decide between two options, he flips a coin, where tails means doing the responsible thing, and heads means doing the impulsive/potentially interesting experience/new thing.
My motto is just whenever you need do decide what to do, choose the option which will result in the most new or interesting experience.

A man came up to Buddha and said to him: "Buddha, I want happiness.". Buddha responded: "First, get rid of 'I', that's ego. Next, get rid of 'want', that's desire. See, how all you've been left with now is happiness

I'm doing fairly well, but people tend not to appreciate this way of life in the western civilization. So it can cause trouble.

I like the motto "No one makes me do anything therefore I am ultimately completely responsible for any action I take or thought I have or don't take/have"

Maximization of well-being/pleasure and minimization of ill-being/pain.

I live my life with that motto in my mind. Kind of Yin Yang. You cannot entirely keep/avoid the opposites, but you can affect the wheel's rotation.

Another one:

You can do what you (must/need) have to do, never is too late, as long as you are alive.

I wouldn't necessarily call it a motto, just a helpful reminder, but I have:
"Channel my Excitement; not Punish my Mistakes" pinned beside my monitor.

They obviously know how to spell, otherwise they couldn't form the acronym. Duh.

But seriously, I've started using yolo meta-humorously, just like "yo mama" jokes.

Yolo is a big favourite. Normally used in the same way as 'oops'.

I watch this video about once a week to get me angry and give me something to work towards. I get apathetic otherwise.

It's not a motto, but it serves the same purpose.

They heard it from a song. Any appearances of YOLO in text is solely because these people have convinced some poor soul to type things onto the internet for them.

I hate it when someone on Instagram takes a selfie and comments #yolo on it.

It'd be outrageously uncool to comment #carpediem. It also sucks to go around yelling Latin phrases when those two words are pretty much the extent of your vocabulary.

Selfies, Instragram, hashtags and yolo. How well they all fit together, perfect to throw into the trash compactor where they belong.

"No time is wasted time" is as close as it gets.

Clever, works on multiple levels.

Personally I don't have a motto or mantra or whatever else you want to call it.

"Presently live for the future" is a clever one I came up with.

"I know nothing except the fact of my ignorance"
- Socrates

Christopher Hitchens emphasized this during his religion debates. He was pointing out that the religious aren't as certain as they think they are, which is certainly true. However while it was true in Socrates' time it's not so much now. We actually know quite a lot about an awful lot of the universe.

For example, we haven't even gone outside of our solar system and seen a different sun but I think we can be pretty sure that we know what they will be like. For instance, without seeing every sun in the universe we know that we won't find one powered by pixie dust.

Interesting analogy. However, I believe Socrates little piece of wisdom is still valuable today. The only way to keep learning is to accept that you don't have it all figured out yet. The moment you believe you have everything figured out is the moment you stop learning and you are truly ignorant.

This is not to say that you are ignorant that wasn't the implication, I use the word "you" in general for any human that believes they have nothing left to learn about everything or anything in particular.

What if the "pixie dust" has a lot of energy storing potential that could be tapped into? Couldn't it then be used as an energy source for life?
