Do You Donate?

INTPs are seldom the kind to volunteer there time at charitable organizations but what about your wallets? Does anyone here make donations to charities? If so, what are they?

I donate in unusual ways. I pay for the people behind me in drive-thru occasionally, I get things for people that I know they might need or might make their lives easier, I take care of sick people in my family or have in the past, sometimes for months, and give food occasionally to people on the street. I also donate the stuff I want to get rid of.

I don't tend to give to charity organizations unless I've looked into them. I'm not sure if my money would actually go to the right places... I don't have a lot to give even if I wanted to give in that way.

Not sure if any of that is worth noting, but that's how I donate.

First I don't have the money for donating to make sense.
Second if I were to donate I would do it as investment not one time thing for one specific person, something not a temporary fix for one case.That would be science,tech or something with an actual plan to fix the root cause, other than that it would something I want(like advancing the game industry)
Any other way is just a damage to my self interest, there are infinity people in need and in "need".

I used to donate some money to the wikipedia and internet archive when I was younger and giving away substantial amounts of $ wasn't a great concern as I had an almost limitless supply of it as it wasn't what I earned myself.

As it is now my outlook has changed and I only consider donating or supporting financially organisations or individuals that I know from the inside or I have personal connections to, having previously verified the validity, efficiency and rightness of their causes and also having made sure that it won't put me in an inconvenient position. Which means that I haven't donated in many years now as I lack the time to put such effort to check every charity and non-profit out there ; ), easier to assume that it's all a scam and what I know only reinforces this pessimistic outlook.

Plus if I were to donate and invest such effort, why not consider putting that money or time to work on cutting-edge medicine or other technologies that are sure to be at least in part beneficial to the humanity and would reduce costs of treatment or various commodities. That way not only there's a potential to learn something new but the interest is likely to pay off.

I can see it being a concern for some oil magnates or people who make fortunes or living out of destroying our natural environment or bringing losses to those around them to think of absolving themselves like that.
An ordinary person putting a normal amount of commitment into a positive side of the industry is surely doing enough good as a whole there.

Another question entirely is the existence and grassroot creation of novel services or changes by the way of supporting non-profits.

I donate if I investigate an organization and find them to be competent and efficient; they either do something I want to but can't, or they're an extension of myself. Admittedly this usually involves blood vs money, but I'm not opposed to money.

Far too many charities are nothing but scams. Far too many.

Give the money to people or organizations you know personally and really well. Or better yet, do things yourself.

I donate a monthly sum to some kind of helpy peoply thing I can't quite remember the name of at the top of my head. I most certainly can't afford it and the only reason I'm doing it is because I was approached (more like forcibly assaulted) on the street while I was doing my christmas shopping a couple of years ago. Some rather intimidating man pressured me into registering while making sure I was completely aware of the fact that if I didn't donate asap, I would be personally responsible for thousands of 4-9 year old girls being raped every day. I am not a very assertive person and it was a very tricky situation I couldn't really see any reasonable way out of. At one point I considered just literally running away from the scene, but unfortunately I didn't realise that was an option until the moment he was holding my credit card in his hands. I'm generally fond of escaping rather than dealing with icky situations, but I would never leave my credit card behind. I barely have enough money to get by as it is.
And btw, this is not some small unknown organization. It's one of the big ones that most people have heard of, and yet, they're still using these kinds of methods to get people to donate. It's disgusting.

I donate to Wikipedia whenever they ask, otherwise I mainly use donating as an excuse to gamble (charity raffle tickets) and buy chocolates/cookies guilt free.

I've noticed that I never help adults. I help people in college and donate to children's charities. Ive paid for schooling for a child in a third world country. Cosigned a loan for a young man going through college and helped pay for various things. I tip really well to young people.

I typically avoid helping the homeless who make it a lifestyle but will help someone new on the street.

Actually, I have been known to do a few unconventional things for charity.

Earlier this year, I ran a 6 mile mud race and raised enough money for a local club to re-outfit it's sensory equipment for their autistic members. I have twice performed a full monty strip in aid of charity (well, one of those was only half), had my bakini line waxed (yes, that did raise a few bit of money) and the other day bought some Christmas presents for some disadvantaged children. I often drop my change into the charity box and usually have one or two regular payments to something. Not even sure what at he moment - I think for deaf kids and Wateraid.

knowing my contributions will be lowly and shallow at this current time, i passively refuse help to those who do not have control over their incapacitating misfortunes out of sincere respect for each and every individual of character

at the very least, my contribution would need to be significant enough to aid those universally for multiple specified misfortunes that would be somewhat realistically available, most of which involves the person's ability to perform in general terms whether bodily or mental, chronic conditions and the such rather than their environment or circumstance -things that will ultimately incapacitate them, possibly bring unnecessary pain and discomfort as well.

if then, they will at least be able to make their attempts and actions regardless of disadvantageous circumstances.

uncertainty and chance will forever be prevalent, not everyone will come out as expected, unfortunately. there will be losers

The only people I will ever donate money to are the people that were dealt shit hands in life, the issues could be medical or situational. If my friend got fired from his job and couldn't pay his rent for the month I would help him out, and if some little kid needed heart surgery that they can't afford I would chip in and give them 20$.

I donate to various organisations. Mostly wildlife related, as I care more about animals than starving children, although I help out those kids once in a while. Usually ASPCA, WWF, Feeding America, Child Fund, and several others. I enjoy doing it on a regular basis
It's something I never considered deeply before, mostly because I haven't had the means to do so. Yet recently I've done more than my fair share, and will continue to as long as I'm able to.
As for the homeless on the corner with signs, I usually give them spare change or a gift card from a popular retailer that has like $10 left on it. I know what's it's like to be there (homeless, never held a sign) and how cool it feels when someone hooks you up like that.
