Uhhhhh, he can be. We go to shows a few times a year, mostly to please him, occasionally pays off.
Thanks for the warning with the ear plugs. Does he usually play an eclectic mix of his discography, or mostly the last few albums?
re. Epicloud. Sounds like a similar approach to Deconstruction. Is it as heavy? I remember someone saying that he was moving away from metal.![]()
I think he will play a lot of newer stuff for this tour. They played 6 songs off Epicloud, 2 off Deconstruction, and 1 off Addicted. Then for older stuff it was a song off Ocean Machine, 2 from Infinity, and one off Synchestra. The overall sound of the show was pretty much just straight rock/metal like Epicloud. The older songs were picked to fit with sound of the new songs, so expect it to be a loud rockin metal show for the most part. He changes his setlists from show to show so you will probably see something different than what i got.
Epicloud is not nearly as heavy as Deconstruction, or SYL and Ziltoid for that matter. It's more like the album Addicted, which came before Decon. To me it sounds like a mix of Addicted, Accelerated Evolution, and Physicist. Some people classify this material as his "happy metal" tunes.
It was an attempt at writing big heavy rock anthems about feelings that are considered "inappropriate" for this type of music, such as love and happiness. Devin is metal as fuck even when he tries not to be. The way he described Addicted and this album before they came out, I was under the impression they were actually gonna be more poppy and tame than they actually were. Ghost is probably his only album that doesnt have any metal on it.
