How do you approach deadlines and due dates in your professional and academic life?

I'm in my senior year of High School, taking online classes exclusively because I despise the rigidity of a typical classroom environment, and I'm having trouble motivating myself to complete assignments on time. I have over sixty assignments that I need to complete and submit which equates to almost twenty days of inactivity total. I find it disconcerting that my peers are able to complete assignments on a daily basis, and I am not.

I'm in the same predicament that I put myself in last year, actually. I had over seventy assignments to complete then within three days. I had teachers and administrators wanting to fail me because those seventy assignments were supposed to equate to thirty days or more of classes. As soon as the second of the three days rolled around, the severity of the situation set in. I focused all of my time and energy into those seventy assignments and was able to complete them all with five hours left to spare. Is it typical behavior of an INTP to delay tasks until the last possible minute and then receive a rush of focus and heightened senses to get everything done?

There's nothing as productive as the last minute.

At school I either didn't do *it* at all, or did the task during a break before the lesson. That's because I hated whatever the task was.

Other than that, I haven't had a job, so I cannot comment on that part. However, I assume that I would do what I have to if I liked it long before the deadline, but skipped giving it in, as I wouldn't want to do more for the same amount of money.

And anyway, I want my own company, it's the only way I'm going to live up to my potential by a choice; working for someone, I deliberately won't unless there's a huge payoff.

It seems to be common, but it's not limited to INTP types. On the other hand some ESFJ folks seem to have an obsession with getting done ahead of a deadline even if the product is garbage. If you ever get such a person in a position of authority over your work, you are in deep shit.

Ah, deadlines.

Unfortunately, I hate failing so I usually meet them. I can only of two papers where I got research done ahead of time. Both times I was up the night before trying to write it. But, these were both art based classes and I got to choose the subject.

Everything else I meander on...even if it's important. Making appointments is basically useless for me because there is no deadline. It's taken me four years to make a dentist appointment...

Well, I burned my fingers when I became lazy in my final year. After that, I always came home and done my homework right away even if it must be handed in after more than one day. So I developed a feeling that deadlines are important and I try to do everything before them to have more free time!!

Typical INTP behior? Yes, but that doesn't mean it's good behavior. I find that kind of situation to be incredibly stressful, even if I do manage to get the work done.

Honestly, I think taking online courses is a mistake. I do my best learning when I can just sit and listen to the professor. I don't know the exact format of your classes, but I imagine the online component would get in the way of that.
