I have started learning about the functions and how they influence my behavior. I still don't understand them completely, but I wonder if cooking is an expression of my Fe.

I despise recipes and never use them. This makes me a bad baker. I don't mind bread since you can improvise and it is rarely the same twice. If I read cookbooks or recipes it is to get a technique which I can apply to other ingredients.

I get the most satisfaction when cooking for my wife or some others I care about. I resent being asked to cook for anyone I don't really like or who does not appreciate what I am doing.

I enjoy cooking everyday for my wife. It is probably one of the only ways I nurture her. Could this be a way in which I indirectly express my feeling for her?

Do many INTPs enjoy cooking, especially for people they care about?

That's probably a way you express that there Fe. I also like cooking, but not directly. I like eating, and I like experimenting with flavors, but the actual process of cooking, itself, I find boring.

2 years culinary training and am back to doing it professionaly although to a limited extent from the restaurant business. Can't say I care about customers beyond wanting to make sure they like what they eat and don't get sick or anything. I like experimenting with the processes and don't like recipes either.

I separate baking from cooking in my mind because baking requires a certain amount of precision. Messing up the baking soda to baking powder ratios means the difference between a good product and a bad product (by my standards at least). I like to think of myself as a chef. Chefs cook, bakers bake.

From the way you describe it, it does sound like an expression of your Fe, but also your Ne.

For me, its a huge expression of my Ne. I imagine the possibilities of how the different flavours could come out by changing the ingredients, or how I could make something nice and moist, or extra crispy by changing the cooking times. Like you, I dislike using a cookbook, or recipes. I'll use them the first couple of times to get an idea of a technique, but after that I like to just do it my own way.

I'm guessing for you, there is a bit of your Ne being expressed as well, right?

I love eating well. There are few things as tasty as those that you make for yourself.

I am still figuring out Ne, but I think that is true. Cooking is a creative activity I enjoy. I like the improvisation. Sure there are rules, but they are flexible. I really enjoy that cooking show Chopped and think I would be good at it.

It drives my wife nuts that I never set a timer. She will try to set it for me. She asks how long it will take and I don't know. I just know when it is done.

I have been mostly thinking about Fe since I believe it might be causing me some problems in a relationship. I think my Fe is trying to run wild. I think cooking may be the only way I normally express it. Hard exercise brought me some short term relief but it seems that was more of a distraction than a resolution.

If you want an activity that expresses Fe with no time limit, try writing. If you want to express your love for your wife, then I recommend reading Shakespearean sonnets and understanding some of the themes and tropes at work. With your studies completed, craft your own poetry and leave it in unexpected places (her shoes, her purse, her car) and wait for her reaction. Given that your Fe will take time to build up, each poem will likely be novel to her; the novelty and warmth might even result in a kiss on the cheek, a hug, and perhaps long whiles of snuggling.

I dislike cooking, dislike eating, and dislike the amount of time and effort that goes into cooking for no real gain. No Fe for me.

Cooking is a Ti activity for me. I cook because it is cheaper than having to go buy food cooked by other people, and it is more benificial to remain independent then to have a girlfriend cook for me, because then she starts to try to move in and ruin my life and such...

It is all strategy.

I enjoy cooking on occasion. Its nice to sometimes take a time out and just do some mindless physical action with some background music. The hand motions and all the pleasant smells also have a positive effect on the mind. Not to mention knowing you can then sit down and eat some delicious food and not some random microwave stuff. Though it seems I can only really enjoy it properly when I'm alone, for some reason. Like some sort of meditation that makes me fat...

Could you please stop giving unsolicited bad advice everywhere you post and actually address the thread topic? Most of the women I know would cringe and run away as if their life depended on it were I to start doing what you suggest... I understand you're trying to exercise Fe, but this is not really the way to do it. And probably not a good place for it too.

Imagine an immaculately clean japanese house with beautiful, perfectly polished wooden floors. A house which you suddenly decide to enter uninvited, and stomp around inside with your muddy shoes while speaking loudly in a foreign language. At least leave the shoes at the entrance, man. Otherwise the ninja-maids will get mad. :phear:

There is no such thing as a "taco shell".

I enjoy cooking and baking though I'm not as good a baker as I am a cook. I also enjoy cooking for people I care about but that's mostly due to the fact that they are more likely to appreciate the effort I put into the food.

I use my friends as guinea pigs. They eat and then I ask them to tell what I could have done better. It's a hobby. *shrug*

Oh gods. I'd rather not thanks. This is Blobby level thread derailing.

:D I was reading a book recently on how to write based on character traits of MBTI. A description of an ENTP mom (I am one) who is listening to a child express their feelings and the mothers reaction was to just keep adding more roast beef to the childs sandwich. Lol.

My kids are were always well cooked for, extremely well fed. I am a rather good cook as was my father, another T.

If I've not cooked from scratch, it's because I'm not feeling (or giving) the love.

My Ne is on fire whenever I am cooking.

I can come up with all these different possible ideas. Like, for example if I'm cooking burgers, I then realize that in my fridge I have salsa, guacamole, and asian sesame chicken in there. I can mix those together and then add different types of seasoning that could work well, relying on past history via Si; maybe a hint of garlic could be the finishing touch? And viola! Asian-mexican fusion chicken burgers!

Same here. If i read recipes i get put off by details of recipes etc. and yet i have zero problems getting my brains in metaphysic theories etc. Go figure !?

It is all strategy.

Exactly the way i see things too. I know exactly what goes into my food (i make sure it's all healthy and provide all the nutrients/antioxidants my body/brain require), i wouldn't if i eat out (what i used to do a lot when i was younger and stupid as i didn't value money/life as i do now).
Nowadays, the money i save in eating what i cook i can save... The money i save makes me feels more secured and therefore more independent and free. Just like you, it's all strategy. I see my life as a system that constantly needs optimized and cooking/eating the correct foods is just one part of it.

I really enjoy cooking. I find it very relaxing in the morning as I'm chopping up the peppers and onions for my eggs.
