What do you think of cheerleaders? Are they the snobby dumb sluts pop culture makes them out to be? Should cheerleading be considered a sport? Have you ever met an intelligent cheerleader? Did the cheerleaders you knew get fat after High School?

(It depends. Some are in it for the athletic aspect, others are in it for the social aspect. I suspect the social types do indeed become plump in time, or at least certainly more so than the former. You'd really need to assess each person individually, possibly using their parents as a partial guide as well to identify genetic influence.)

From my experience of being in a high school with a decent football program (+3,000 students), a good cheerleading squad can become the voice and spirit of the school, which lends support to the players in the game. They play a vital role in the psychological dynamic of spirit, for both the team itself and the audience they're cheering for; they amplify reactions and uplift emotions. I assume they become pronounced when they're at a rival match, of which I've never been to personally.

Most athletes are STs though, while most cheerleaders I presume are SFs, so I think it'll be hard to garner perspectives on this especially on a predominately NT forum, not to mention cheerleading is predominately found only in American football and to a certain extent basketball- only a third on this site are American.

On whether cheerleading can be categorized into a sport, I think it could be a form of an indirect sport, although it really depends on what your definition of sport is (or how loose it is).

One thing I want to relate is that younger female athletes who've stopped their exercise regiments tend to develop (biologically), and is not really a result of a gluttony like implied. It's actually a common phenomena. For example, female gymnasts in the olympics tend to go through a growth spurt after their rounds at the Games.

About a quarter of the cheerleaders I know are men. They didn't put weight on and they weren't any more of a slut than any other guy. The girls were pretty statistically representative: a few catty ones but mostly not. A good number that I've know have gone to college to be accountants.
So no. You're thinking hollywood. That has not been my experience in the least.

You're not alone. I went to school in a town with a (I'm told) pretty impressive football team and I still don't even get the appeal. Like they just stood on the track and did their own thing while the bleachers were full of parents too busy watching their kids play football to bother giving a crap. Even during halftime there was a distinct air that no one gave a crap about the performance they were putting on, especially since I'm pretty sure they did the same routine every time.
