If it's not too late to change the poll a "fulffy thing in cage" option would be good, if not I'll vote "other". I've had a hamster, chinchillas and now a rabbit that can all be safely ignored when needed (in their cage with food etc) but come out to run round part of the house for hours when people are home. More cat than dog, but without the worry when they disappear for days and always there when you need something to stroke. Unless they're asleep...

The ability of cats to remain idle in the same location is beneficial.

Why is there no adorable fluffy rodent option?

Otherwise, erm, I don't know... Between breeds there's a huge variety of temperaments in both cats and dogs. Though mostly dogs.

^ You can vote... I didn't see an "edit" for the poll, sorry.

@dormouse
Sorry about not having a rodent option either. I tried not to leave anyone out but I guess I failed. :(

I liek teh kitties. Mice and rats are adorable as well, though. A friend of mine has one named Lilith. She's so devilishly cute.

It's whatever you consider yourself more to be. I love all animals, squirrels, killer whales, crickets, crows and my sisters dogs but my heart goes to cats. :) I've actually had fish and when they died I emptied the tank and turned it into a refugee camp for crickets I rescued from pet shops. But of course I later realized that the more crickets I'd buy from the store the more the store will buy for the demand, so I stopped. When taking sides, I'm a cat person but there is the "other" option for those of you I've missed.

My dog acts like a cat and my cat acts like a dog. I love them both, but kitties are my weak point. :3

in theory
fossil remains of dogs have been found in human-occupied caves; the oldest date back some 14k years ago. how dogs came to be domesticated is not known. My own guess is that children were responsible. A child could form a close bond with a puppy that had been abandoned, or that was picked up after the mother was killed. Once the bond was formed , the child would object to the use of the puppy as food, and parents might obglige. it would quickly have turned out that dogs, being hunters and pack animals, would accept a human master as the pack leader. The dog would go hunting with the master, help in tracking and killing the game, and would then wait for the human being to take what he wanted and be satisfied with a minor share for himself. in this way, human beings, for the first time, obtained the services of another species.- Issac Asimov Chronology of the world

btw my preference is a naked mole rat like in kim possible ron stoppable!~

I've had cats for over two thirds of my life, so I guess that makes me a cat person. I recently got a dog a few months ago, so I guess I'm both now...

Cats! I can't walk past a cat in the street without stopping to stroke it :) I have a cat and my sister has a cat (they're brothers) and they're soooo awesome!

My oldest sister has cats and a dog but the dog acts like a cat, which is why I like him. I'm normally a bit scared of dogs because they bark.

I love dogs for so many reasons (as you can probably tell from my Avatar), but one of the main ones is that I understand them much better than I understand people. Humans have the weirdest most counterintuitive customs and body language, which I fail to pick up on the majority of the time, and then I get in trouble. Dogs are much better at communication, are much easier to befriend, and infinitely better companions once you have befriended theme.

I wish there was a rat/fuzzy rodent option as well. Rats are so smart and snuggly if raised well. Otherwise I like cats. Dogs are okay...but I prefer cats.

I'm more of a cat person. I like how calm they are most of the time. And cuddly!
Buuut I would also love dogs of I had the patience to train them.

Nah, it was my fault, I couldn't stop myself from picking him up. He was so cute D: He was just fighting for dominance with my dad's rat so he became aggressive. We tried separating them but then he began fighting with his brother :( Eventually we kept them by themselves but handled them alot to keep them company.

I was once owned by a single male rat named Bob. I say owned because he pretty much owned anyone he came across. He would sleep/snuggle in my hair a lot and ride on my shoulder constantly. He was hardly ever in his cage. He'd start running up and down my arm with rising alarm when he needed to go to the bathroom and I'd set him down in his cage. He'd do his business really quick then I'd pick up and away we'd go. I really loved that rat. When he finally got old and passed away I couldn't bring myself to get another one. You become so completely attached only to lose them 2 or 3 years later. It's heartbreaking. We were a bonded pair. ;)

I've always thought about getting a rat. But I know my cat wouldn't let that happen. At the very least, she'd kill it. :) But having a rat is definitely never out of the question.

Those are some very adorable cephalopods.

I'll say I'm a cat person, but I like dogs and love having fish. Someday I wish to have a ball python and some lizards.

I really just need to work in a pet store.

Lost in my thoughts
Dogs are alright (sometimes), but I have to say that I can get along so much better with cats than dogs. A dog usually puts me on guard for some strange reason, but I feel that I can chill out when a cat's around (plus, I find cats way more adorable than dogs).

haha, that is so true! But not all of them like being stroked and petted by random strangers and that has resulted in many bites and scratches over the years.
