I've been playing a lot of board games recently. So far I enjoyed Fresco and Agricola for planning. Escape from Atlantis for trying to kill other players and having fun

I play with Norwegians with a varying degree of English understanding, so there's a limit to what games I can introduce to them. Games with symbols and no text are always a possibility. Agricola is one of the old, solid games that have been translated.

I also tried Noria where I enjoyed the wheel mechanic, but where it didn't feel satisfying only to have paths to build on and nothing else.

So I guess this thread is about board games, which ones you enjoyed, hated etc.

Ticket to Ride is fun, but it should just be called My Wife Wins. The other fun one is Settlers of Katan. Oldy but a goodie.

I have tried Munchkin, but need tonplay it with people that already know How to play. I tried Exploding Kittens, but damn is it boring. Might be that it was just the two of us, but it lost novelty very quick.

All the variations of Betrayal House on Haunted Hill are fun, but they lose their appeal if you have more than 5 players.

Im obsessed with D&D 5e right now, but the one dm I found ghosted everyone after session 2 and now I stuck being the dm if I want to play in person. Which is too much work right now. I just want to be my goliath paladin with a peg leg. Is that too much to ask for?

What is the allure of Catan? It appears that everyone and their mom loves Catan in the U.S.

I mostly find board games a tad boring, hate to say this. If I'm with people I'm usually on my phone.

Seems cool, I just never got into it.

Funny enough my morher-in-law loves playing it.

The appeal of it is that it's, like monopoly but you don't have to be cut throat, or Youbcan be. The rules are loose enough that trade deals and even land deals can be conducted how you want. I usually play with my resource cards facing up so people know what I have to trade, but other people keep their cards face down.

Sitting one your phone during gatherings is probably why you don't have fun.

Perhaps you don't like the people you hangout with very much. Also finding the right game for you. I thought they were mostly boring too, but thats before I found games I liked. I though all games were like Monopoly or Candyland, but they have changed since I was a kid.

I forgot to mention Cards Against Humanity. Very fun game to play with new people to figure out their sense of humor.
