When I was young: a Sonic the Hedgehog plushie and a leaflet with some sort of stickers you could attach and detach. So you had like a forest background and could attach various animals to the forest, river etd. I enjoyed making up little stories with them.

alot of this was hell on earth to carve

I tend to give myself a gift. This year was a Canon 70-200mm F.2.8 L IS USM II. The surprise aspect wasn't that great. It did make me smile. I said thank you for the other gifts as well,but they where less usable. Like wine and stuff.
