INTJ here.. I am very interested in how energy relates to the economy and society at large, and I am quite concerned about what Peak Oil and Global Warming will mean for our societies.

I used to think I would like to be a professor in energy and political economy. Being an expert in my own right with a lot of autonomy greatly appeals to me. The first two years of university has caused me to reconsider though. It seems to me, that university professors spend way too much time arguing incredibly tedious details and write specialist papers for each other.. Too little of any effect get's done to my taste, and even though I am still keeping it in mind as a definite possibility, I have begun thinking about another option.

The other option I am considering atm, is trying to become a permanent official in the EU. I think my love of analysis would have a good environment there, and the fact that it is concerned with the "real" reality, makes it a lot more likely that I will feel truely productive. Another plus about working in the EU, is that it's really only the best and brightest that get a shot - even more so than university. Less than 3 % of the graduates who takes the tests actually passes and lands a job in the EU. If the statistic I saw about graduates being one standard deviation above the mean IQ (not even talking about selfselection in the test - it is certain to draw the better of the students), then it would seem that the "minimum" IQ to pass the test would be around 3 standard deviations above the mean. This has a great attraction to me, as I would love to be in an environment with such intelligent people, and be able to influence actual change..

Oh, my childhood dream was to be a spy !!!

Now I want to be a philosopher, buyt I'm sooo lazy :(

Haha, same here. Nonetheless, I am still trying to decide on a career. Any opinions concerning "doctor-ing"/ "medical studies/sciences"?

I don't hate math.

I simply suck at it.

I try.

I agree with my answer.

They disagree.

I agree to disagree.

They don't accept it.

I tear the page out and swallow it.

I die.

Programming as it is in its early amateurish years for me has been overwhelming and at the same time delicious.

I just hate how I forget my syntax all the time and there is just so much more of that coming.

For those of you who enjoy brainstorming itself and enjoy computers, you could always resort to hackthissite . It is this playground of hacking and you get to dip your toes in lava, liquid nitrogen, coke, whiskey, and mercury consecutively.

The only bitch is that you need a lot of time. Eventually if you aren't tolerant enough, you end up cheating and screwing yourself over.

You don't get banned, you just maul yourself for not being able to figure it out.

Then you distance yourself from it.

I loved astronomy as a little kid, since 2nd grade, and science experiments. I used to check out fat books about astronomy when I was 7 or 8 and I knew about quasars, and black holes, and all the warpy stuff that goes on.., then I liked the entire NASA culture, and airplane stuff, including aircraft pilot.

That was put to bed, and pushed to the back of my head, when I was forced into medicine..

 I ABSOLUTELY HATE ANYTHING MEDICAL NOW WITH A PASSION

Once I gained the guts to face my parents and quit that hell-hole, only now am I re-discovering my passions.. I would love to be an aerospace engineer. Its my dream job.

2 years of medicine was like torture, no focus, no passion.. I'm afraid that my bad study habits (from being unfocused in medicine) will carry on with me throughout life.

:(

When I was a kid I wanted to be an astronaut until someone told me space shuttles could explode. Astronomy still interests me. I'm also interested in physics, mathematics not per se and, well. I also like designing stuff and programming, but the latter just a little. It is a bit too linear for my liking.

I have no idea though about what career path I'm going to take. When I've finished Interactive Media I'll go study something else in stead of working straight ahead. Maybe philosophy or astronomy.

When I was a kid I wanted to be a painter (walls), haven't a clue why. Now I am just in the situation where I don't know what to do, did consider Psychology but I wouldn't want to help people (and other reasons). The main problem is lack of qualifications. But I have plans and at the bottom end of all the plans I have plan X go into the military/Navy plan Y Welfare and plan Z Suicide (don't panic this isn't really an option)

Programming is more about thinking and Logic than it is about actual typing. The hardest part is thinking about HOW it is you are going to tell the computer to do what you want it to, because computers are stupid, and overly literal.

Just like us INTPs.

Miserable Computer Programmer here - INTP.

Although, I can't stop thinking of all the possibilities out there ;)

Have you tried developing mobile apps? If you lack the money to set up an iOS dev machine, Android is open source(for now, at least...) so you can screw around with that without having to pay anything. From what I've read, programmers in your position tend to get excited by the possible ideas. A lot have said that mobile app development has brought back their love for coding.

Also, if your ideas (and implementation) are good, you may eventually assemble a portfolio good enough to quit your job and freelance, which would grant you the freedom of working wherever, whenever and for whomever you want to work.

"INTP - Computer Programmer, Mathematician, Physicist."

I hate Mathematics.

Phew, I thought I was the only INTP.

I love making art and psychology and biology interest me. I hate everything exact. It's cool that there are people who like that and are good at it, we need that, but yeah... not my thing. I'm annoyed that I still have to do exact stuff at school.
