It is beneficial to develop yourself in multiple areas because ability in any specific task is determined by lots of different factors, and developing yourself in one area will probably increase your ability in a very different area.

Consider the areas of mathematics and social skills. If I increase my skill in social skills, I will probably become happier, which will cause me to enjoy life more, and probably cause me to be more motivated to apply effort to solving mathematical equations.

k9b4,

I agree with you 100%!

I know there are a lot of people here that disagree with balance and harmony. I've seen so much resistance to exploring anything other than math and science. Basically believing that other people are dumb for having interests in other phenomena. I've posted this quote a bunch of times to show that even scientists believed in balance.

It's ironic that Carl Jung was big into astrology, illumination, and many other things that frequently get bashed around here...

"Jung emphasized the importance of balance and harmony. He cautioned that modern humans rely too heavily on science and logic and would benefit from integrating spirituality and appreciation of the unconscious realm."

It's impossible to reach enlightenment without balance and harmony.

I want to learn how to work with a few new artistic mediums. Maybe woodworking, or painting. I've seen a lot of different styles and mediums for painting. I wood lathe would be fun to learn and toy around with.

What other skills would you like to learn? Or what skills do you think you need to be well balanced?

Nice, good for you.

I don't know what I want to learn. Currently I am developing my sensing, I've started working out again.

Perhaps in the future I will create pictures or music.

As you develop your sensing, you will find more interests. Yoga and meditation is a good addition to a workout routine. If you are more aware of your muscles, you can focus and get a better workout.

I wish I was better with music. I want to learn but I think I have difficulty with audio/musical portion of my brain. I don't know what it is... I don't feel like I have trouble hearing, but maybe I do?

My first passion was art and drawing. Until I found out that I was colorblind. I gave up on it for a long time, but I got back into art and find ways to work around the colors.

It's not so bad. I can still see colors, but I can't tell many of them apart. And I can never read these things...

Hah... I ended up changing it after multiple people said that I should. I was planning on changing my signature soon anyways.

I tried staring at it for a while, and every once in a while I could see parts of the words. I want to get the "fuck the color blind" t-shirt and use it to pick up chicks.

That's true. I myself is very jealous of people that have high social skills. If you go to school and want to study, you get much more stimulation if you have other people supporting you and you have never to worry about your status and correlation with others, it simply gets naturaly to you. So then you can focus on the stuff you're learning. For me, it's not like that. I always feel unlikeable and have to effort myself to be one of the group. That make that I can not focus on the math.

But in the same way, it's not necessary to have social skills if you be at home and just focus on your thing. Why does happy have to mean the person who always laugh and talk? For me, it's okay to just be secure, and I feel secure in my own company.

Yep balance is almost mandatory for a healthy life/brain. I work in the arts which forces me to make right brain connections constantly, which proficiency in keeps my left brain out of trouble. In social life, I can relax the left brain to access the right brain in order to smooth interactions, unless I start to stress, in which case my default is to retreat into my analytic left brain. When the left brain is stumped, it's easier to access the right brain for possible solutions. Right brain creativity and insight can be practiced and honed.

It is common to see left-brain oriented people act like they are an authority on something they can't possibly be, because they lack the perspective and experience. You can't be an authority on spirituality/religion just because you've analyzed some ancient texts and crunched some possibilities. You can't be an authority on love just because you've observed couples' interactions and monitored areas of brain stimulation. You can't be an authority on honor and duty just because you've studied military history and contemplated ethics. You can't be an authority on beauty and awe just because you've studied art history and the rule of thirds. These are right brain insights that are often ignored or rationalized by the left brain.

My advice, find some form of meditation or artistic channel and learn how to relax the left brain to gain insight and perspective from the right. Then read some Kierkegaard and watch this Good Will Hunting park bench clip...
