I am a young (20) :kodama1: aspiring, Biochemist. I am looking for thoughts, experiences (in school, professional or otherwise) to give me a better idea what to expect and look for.

Below I have described my background and current direction it is OPTIONAL reading as I am interesting in all kinds of advice but may encourage the direction of the advice.

(I began at a four year University as a Political Science Major:ahh: but soon felt sure that I would have to make more sacrifices than I wanted to in order to make any real difference in a field I cared little for.
After fighting though the damaging belief that I was somehow less qualified than the average person to pursue science (a belief I cultivated from seeds plants by bullies in high school mostly ) and dabbling from social sciences, to languages, to psychology, to biology, I finally wedged myself firmly in a love for Chemistry :D. I ultimately decided to jump headlong into Biochemistry my Sophomore year of college to have a more holistic understanding of science and to be more useful in more fields (since I haven’t quite decided my direction).

Currently, I am at another college because I had to move last year and I’m growing impatient with education :twisteddevil:. I want to start doing things! Unfortunately, I have had a difficult time finding work in the school and, being new to the area, have no idea what to look for outside of school. The discouraging part is that despite having enough credits under my belt to be considered a College Senior I do not have the classes I need to graduate for another year or two and Student Loans :rip: are piling up fast.)

I am not pursuing science, but I do have two suggestions pertaining to your situation.

Firstly, consider an internship or something similar.
This may include getting involved in current research done at your institution, or doing job-shadowing at a relevant company.
You stated that you find it difficult getting work within the university(college, school) so the latter may be your best bet.
Possible internships may be found online.

Secondly, if you wish to have a job that actually pays in your local area, you will have to search for one.
This involves asking around, checking the papers and searching online.

In matters like these, if you really wish to have a job outside of your studies, persistence is key.

This is very general advice, and perhaps somewhat obvious, though if you elaborate on the situation the advice may become more particular.

EDIT: I went of the last part of your post. I suspect that I may have strayed broadly from the question you asked, though some clarity is needed.

I'm not entirely sure what, specifically, you want to hear.

Here are some pretty boring and predictable responses to what you communicated.

Stay in school. Finish your degree. Go to graduate school unless you get a job offer immediately.

Biochemistry, interesting study, only not that much job opportunities.

Specialize in genetics there is where the jobs are!

Find work at agro academia, agrocultural industry.
