i tried a custom avatar that i thought was extremely reasonable, but i got a message saying something about it being the wrong size.

The file size restrictions are mean, just convert it to a Jpeg or bitmap.

Whilst those dimensions are correct, the actual weights of file sizes have been increased to ridiculous amounts just not to reject pictures on weight --- although this amounts to saying you may be up to 500 lbs providing you are no more than 5' 6" and 40" round: the density is appalling.

300 x 300 is large enough for expression: any larger and page downloads suffer.

I think a width of 300 is way too large and it interferes with how the forum renders - each post is a different size!

Yes, we should all have avatars exactly 115 x 145 pixels like on INTJForum. :p

Yes, the sole reason I had a p-conversion was because I couldn't find enough avatars to fit the specifications there. I need one for every mood damnit!

I'm surprised more people don't complain about this.

I don't like wider avatars, but I sill prefer having a bigger limit.
I try to keep mine to not much more than 200 pixels wide

Well if I said 'Well thats nice, but I've seen better, my own to be exact'.

It'd be similar to stating I'm superior to you in the forum necromancy scene, which would be rude, don't you think?

No, I'd rather say self-absorbed.

How can one possibly absorb themselves? I mean, surely every part of your body can be seen to belong to you, how can you differentiate between selves?

If I make a crack about having your head up your ass, would it classify as defilement of the dead?

While we're here, I must confess I do agree with this, and have thought so for some time. I really do think 200 px for width is more than enough, and returns focus to text instead of some damn huge odious avatar taking over your attention...

Edit: actually it seems that 175 px is the width to use to avoid resizing the column.

Nooo, my avatars are usually around 200-250 (in width). On behalf of my subjective preference I want to have at least 250 in width!
