In another thread the effects of a user's Avatar on their perceived persona was explored. I was wondering if anyone would like to contribute to a fun experiment that involves changing avatars to observe the influences it has on the forum. Say the number of visitors may increase, who knows.

Well recently people seem to think I have a MASSIVE EGO. No idea why it could possibly be linked to my avatar.

Noh of coarse not Mr Prezident, it is noormal for great leeduhs to be op-posed by small mindzah
(it's meant an American accent)

Personally I do choose avatars for some degree of role-play value and this one has a certain existentialist-of-the-deep-end look about it that I like but whether that's inherent to the picture or me projecting my psyche upon it could be debated.

Actually what is interesting is personal vs impersonal avatars. Almost all my avatars have a figure or a person or a animal that someone can identify with. Same with Jenny and Cog to some extent and various other people vs like OSTS who has a cliffhanger and TMB who has a van etc...

I'm not completely sure what my avatar says. I just did a Google image search for a new one and that was how I was feeling at the time.

AK - yeah, I thought he was a she and for the first month read every he posted in the voice of Fluttershy.
Cogs - this one looks a little less serious than the last; which kind of looked like you were lording over the realm.
Gopher - that I take as kind of comic book non-serious joke on patriotism.

Jenny's is interesting. There's a temptation to see that girl speaking, but I know she doesn't look anything like that. I sort of take the slightly twisted imagery of her avatars as being chosen because she's quite a horror movie buff.

We had avatar theme "contests" a couple of times in the past

I think more abstract avatars and those with more weird patterns give an impression of someone being more profound and insightful

If you have an attractive girl avatar and people think you're a girl, you're gonna get a lot of profile clicks...

If you have an anime/ cartoon avatar, you're a normie as far as the intp is concerned

No avatar is just boring and forgettable

Hey I was thought off making this thread too!

I had only given my profile picture like 5 seconds of thought before. Just wanted something simple and neat looking. I never gave it another thought. I never gave other peoples avatars much thought either. My phone browser cuts it out when I am reading replies.

I'll change my profile picture for science! I don't really post much but I will keep this in mind.

I can't use an avatar for very long that I can't identify with somehow. Which means I don't do vague abstractions either. It has to evoke something personally.

I would often use Death of the Endless (I have a number I've found over the years) as my av. I seem to really like this macabre girl clown series too...

yeah, and it showed up as part of the "INTP forum President" contest, so it was kind of a spoof on hyperserious patriotism.

Cog does a lot of transhumanism and/or android stuff, I like his avatars generally and I like how there's an identifiable theme.

Jenny's is interesting. There's a temptation to see that girl speaking, but I know she doesn't look anything like that. I sort of take the slightly twisted imagery of her avatars as being chosen because she's quite a horror movie buff.

I like that she's enigmatic plus there's a kind of subversion of the clown image into something darker and a bit disturbing.... read into the 5w4 (with strong 4 wing) unnerving qualities. It tugs at one's curiosity while at the same being repulsive on some level. The eyes are both haunting as well as transfixing.

My most recent avatar has been a work of laziness. A deviation from my usual which is a poorly photoshopped combination of body, different head, dumb hat.

edit: just decided to change it

Seems quite fitting to your username, and I like it for that.

I liked your previous one as well. Reminded me of Pokémon, and that made me happy.

Looks neat, makes me think of League of Legends art. Also reminds me of a an INFP friend that had this style of art around him a lot.

Evokes nostalagia for me. Makes me imagine you as a 13-14 y/o.

There were avatar contests way back in the day.

My current avatar just makes me happy. Dark and Frilly.

Eh why is that?
Admittedly I don't know where the image is from.

Also it being MY country I can do what I want with it :D

I admit, I do stop and stare at her sometimes. Just because there's nothing inherently wrong or disturbing about the clown make up, and yet it is somehow quite macabre. but on some level - it is. It's probably someone's Halloween outfit, and we're just reading in to it too much. It's probably the contradiction of the clown tears and straight face with the exaggerated clown smile that makes it look so odd, with maybe the Ne eyes that have been talked about around here.

So it makes me look like and INFP 13-14 year old? That wasn't quite what I was going for. I was sort of hoping the dark outline would evoke a sort of mysterious aura to the persona.

And yours gives you this kind of excited little boys voice.

Aahah, I am sorry it is not what you were going for, but I can't come to any judgements about it. Memories seem to be the only thing I have to draw on.

Your evaluation isn't really all that far off, my voice is higher pitched for a male than you would expect (I got hit in the throat with a lacrosse ball when I was younger) and I'm quite a stereotypical ENTP.

@Cog I like yours but I'm not too sure why yet. Maybe it's the opposites I see in it.

Human / but also robot?
On fire and it pain / but happy about it?
Menacing and frightening / but also looks friendly?

What do you think?

My impression of you now is that you are a bad ass.
Your other avatar gave me the same impression.
But now it is more rugged rather than resolute and unwavering.
Reminds me of Duke Nukem. The other one of the ninja from GIJoe.

There's actually a story behind this avatar. That's a picture taken of the shelf of my fridge. I drew that face on it, propped a toy gun up, closed the fridge door and called the kids. "Did anyone unplug the fridge or leave the door open?" I said. Looking a little sheepish and confused, they are denied any such thing. I opened the door and said, "because look at this. It looks like the milk's gone bad." After a moment or two they got the joke.

My avatar's do usually include some form of violence or a sword wielding character of some description because I have an interest in martial arts. And I guess I like the whole training for mental discipline thing that comes with it.

Interestingly, the artist (and I think she might also be the subject?) is a professional makeup artist, and she has a photo feed somewhere of various makeups for lots of different things, like vampires and ghouls and other clowns, etc. I think she has also done tutorials. So these are part of her slew of photos that make up her impromptu portfolio.

And therefore I've always projected a bit of his general vibe and personality onto you.
Ya seem like a reasonable, smart, funny and respectable guy.

I received mine as a compliment although I don’t think he intended it that way.

Just be yourself.

I don't have the political awareness for people to give me titles so I pick my own.

Church is for some people I guess.
