I have a set of automated responses that I use when I meet people or engage in small talk. I can't recall them right now but I find myself saying the same things to people because either I'm tired or I'm preoccupied with my thoughts. Does anyone else do this?

Absolutely. My three most common ones are "Wait a sec", "I'm too busy" and "You're an idiot, that doesn't work. Come back with a better idea". I'm trying to come up with complex responses now, and make them automatic. I dream of going on a five minute argument as to why the conversation-initiator is ignorant as an automatic response to people greeting me.

lol i just had a daydream like that, today. should have recorded that. epic shit. :smoker:

to the thread subject: i'm not sure? i sometimes copy themes of conversation from one conversation to the next, but then i forget about it. like that guy asked me about how i feel about 2012 and i felt that was a fly way of approaching an idea-type, so i used it to approach another idea-type....

I've learned a little about a lot, so I can hold a brief conversation about at least one thing that a person is interested in. The older I get, the better at social interaction I am. I try to find something to move the small talk into talking about the other person's interests. So if a person just wants to do small talk with me they get scared off.

(I hope this was coherent. My room mates are watching Breaking Bad really loud, while I'm listening to an Alex Jones video. So my focus is drawn different places.)

Mine usually goes like this:
Me:How've you been?
Them: (response)
Me: (insert mutually funny memory)
Them: (laugh)
Me: (disengage)
End of conversation.

I don't bother with that sort of small-talk. If I talk to you, then I consider you worth talking to. If I don't talk to you, then I just don't care enough to small-talk. It accomplishes nothing. Maybe that's why I don't have many friends...

Small talk accomplishes heaps. Friends = Power and all that. Plus small talk means you know about that person. More power to play with :D

More people are worth talking to than you think.

The difference between you and I it seems, is that I'm a rather weak T, and a rather strong P. I don't see things in terms of power and control. I couldn't care less about having power over people. I prefer to interact with others as equals and peers, or perhaps as collaborative partners.

Then you probably have an inflated view of yourself. That is if you have trouble finding people you think you are peers with. If not or if you just don't care that is fine as well. However I don't generaly see things in power and control only when it is needed. So not completely sociopath like. Just saying there isn't no reason for small talk.

However on the topic yes I do have automated responses sometimes. Mostly vague questions like. Really? How so. Get's them talking for longer so I can sleep. I also use these when I am actually interested though so it always seems 100% genuine.

I don't have an inflated view of myself. It's not that I don't talk to people because I don't see them as peers. I don't talk to them... because I don't like people. I generally consider everyone a peer, even if they don't match up to me academically, because I still see them as an equal, as a person. To me, it is almost never necessarily to see things in terms of power and control. I am very Anti-Machiavellian in that way.

Yeah exactly that would come under the "or if you just don't care" part of my post.
