As an INTP, what is your stance on WWE and WWF wrestling?

I would think that INTP's dont care for it and it would surprise me if they did. I dont care for it for the same reasons that I dont take religion seriously.

I'll watch a few minutes just out of wide-eyed curiosity if I flip past it on TV, but it's more of a joke -- I'm like, "Seriously???" and laugh at it.

I think I'm less offended because it's not really "wrestling," it's entertainment and they're performing what amounts to drama with a pretense of wrestling. Not that they're not talented in the sense of being able to slam each other while NOT hurting each other, but that's about as far as it goes -- it's all a wild-west campy stage play.

That's not really interesting enough to hold my attention for a few minutes, though.

I will watch it for a few minutes for the exact same reasons, like "wow people REALLY do like this." So ill watch for a couple minutes to try to see the appeal and then just move on.

WWE and WWF were part of my childhood and I adored them back then as much I adored the Power Rangers. It was also a possible cause of some interesting injuries back then. (Note to your kids: The bed post IS NOT a wrestling ring's top turnbuckle)

But alas, I grew up and found better means of entertaining myself.

Basically now I see them as guys performing elaborate stunts and bad acting.

Loved it and emulated it with my friends/family as a kid, played the video games. I grew out of it around 2000(age 8-11) or whatever year the WWE name change and ECW merger was. I've watched it once in a while but it doesn't seem the same as it used to be, I would guess everyone thinks the same for their generation.

My favorite show though was that moment when Stone Cold blew up the DX truck.

I saw a few minutes at the gym the other night, where the one trainer pounded on the wrestler who tried to intimidate him and almost knocked him down. It was all so fake, it was almost amusing... It's like playtime for adult boys.

That probably describes it in a nutshell.

Theater with pretty much the same play. Would not watch it even if it didn't cost energy and time.

I don't know if "better" is the right word for it.

It's also making me want to take an inhaler hit.

Stupid, of course. On the other hand I picked up the habit of enjoying Sumo, from many years spent in Japan, which isn't that much different I suppose.

Re: As an INTP, what is your stance on WWE and WWF wresting?

I'm actually surprised. I have an INTP friend and two ENTP friends who share my interest in wrestling (I'm talking about sports entertainment here, actual wrestling I find boring, I mainly watch WWE because of the segments and story-lines, you can even have compelling stories and intriguing characters/gimmicks). Once you take logic and realism out of the equation, it's pretty entertaining. Maybe it takes a while to see the positive aspects of it because I used to have the same perception of wrestling as most of you do before the night my bored young teenage self stumbled upon and watched an entire episode of RAW and got interested. The shallow generalizations associated with it only aggravate things. Honestly, you realize there's so much more into it other than half-naked men being terrible actors and grappling each other when you actually watch an episode or two. The promos (soliloquy segments where it seems that the wrestler is talking to the crowd) especially get overlooked.

Now that I think about it, had I stumbled upon an episode of WWE in the past two years, it probably wouldn't have caught my attention.
I don't really watch it like I used to, however. Like someone said before, I've discovered better means to entertain myself. It's more of a nostalgia stimulation nowadays, although once in a while some fascinating feud or segment would pop up (scripted shoots, for instance, See : CM Punk's shoot) and ad infinitum.

Do you realise what you are saying!?!? To each his own though :smoker:

Yes. The logic is there but it's so paradoxical it's almost illogical, so yes. It's basically entertainment.

Like I said before, maybe it's matter of getting into it at the right place at the right time. And you only start to appreciate it once you get into it because its positive aspects are indiscernible at a superficial level. Watching some arbitrary segments from the show is a bad way to judge it, to be honest. Wrestling, or to be precise, sports entertainment, is fickle. Sometimes it's great, sometimes it's horrible. Sometimes, it's just cringe-worthy. I don't even know if what I'm saying is making any sense, because I'm terrible at verbalizing my thoughts.

I believe they mean Suspension of disbelief. I have to agree though that when it comes to wrestling, you must try really hard to suspend it.

I used to be into all kinds of silly stuff, then as I got older things that didnt make sense or werent real held little to no meaning to me, and now all I want is for everything to make sense.

I have reluctantly come to the terms with the notion that not everything in the world makes sense, so much for my efforts to make it so. Therefore, now my primary intentions are to enhance my potential, explore and experience and analyze all that the world has to offer and be independent. In colloquial terms, have fun while being in touch with sanity and wisdom.

I guess everyone needs to have an imagination, the world does tend to suck a majority of the time anyway and its good to escape it in any way possible at times.

I think that kind of wrestling started out as the original soap opera men could watch and pretend it was a sport.
Now we have Ax Men, Duck Dynasty, Swamp People and all of the car-rebuilding "reality" shows.

I might pause for a few seconds and watch. It's like watching a train wreck. I would find real professional wrestling boring. But I can appreciate the showmanship of the fake wrestlers. But only for a few seconds. There is so many better things to watch. I'm more into Cirque du Soleil type entertainment. I will pay to see those types of shows. I also do not like the traditional circus. Not that I'm against the use of animals. It just does nothing for me. Cirque du Soleil just seems more cerebral.

As a certified INTP, my preferred stance on WWF is leading right, weight on the balls of my feet, left hand held near my ear, right had held hip high for, you know, in case anyone try some grab ass.

Also, I like the tights. And a mask.

I loved wrestling when I was a kid, back in the late 80s and early 90s. I still occasionally watch some Youtube videos from back then. Today's wrestling bores me. Maybe it's because I grew up, but I don't think modern wrestlers are as entertaining as the likes of Macho Man, Hulk Hogan, Ultimate Warrior, Ric Flair, etc.

Oh my, it was so fun to watch. Sometimes, there were these horrific moments when Umaga used a chair and hit guys head with it. Or the guy jumps from 6 meters height on another person, that person rolls to some side and the guy who jumped breaks his leg :D Lol. And yeah, Ric Flair is a legend. :) I do not watch it for several years already because it became boring plus I heard rumours many fights are staged so...

Why don't we start an INTP Wrestling Federation? I'll get the chairs...

I enjoyed watching it high school. My friends and I used to sit around and laugh at its ridiculousness. It is like watching real life, human cartoons! Soap Operas for men! I do appreciate the amount of effort that goes into making something like professional wrestling happen. The athletes are in great shape, if you ignore the excessive use of steroids, and the lifestyle is demanding. These guys work hard, but could work harder to become better actors, although some are pretty good at it.

With that said, I laugh at anyone that takes it too seriously.

I remember coming to really dislike certain wrestlers. Back in the late nineties and early 00s, I couldn't stand "The Rock". He had to name everything as "The People's_____. He was cocky and arrogant. Then I realized I was getting sucked into it (oh no!)and thought he was one of the better actors. I then found him to be hilarious.
