This.

It often depends on my mood as well, but I tend to keep my mouth shut in unfamiliar groups because I only have buzzkillington-type stuff to add (or their inaccuracy with what they're saying is bothering me and I'm fighting the urge to correct them). With people I know well, I can be fun and interesting, even to less analytical folks.

Yes, I have two things that help me

1) I'm capable of keeping my mouth shut

2) I have a friend who can't, so when he screws up I just call him a buzz-killington even though I wanted to say the same thing (horrible, I know,, but it gets me along, this also is rarely necessary)

We were playing catch phrase with others and the SO said to me, "I'm way better at this because I know how to talk to real people."

I had to concede he was right. But I'm quite good at picking up on other's clues.

As opposed to the artificial laboratory creations that INTP's normally relate to? Your ideal response: "If honey, you mean ignorant simpletons, then yes you are better at talking to them."

Yeah, sometimes, but not like that guy. That guy makes me look like a social genius. I mean, seriously, at least try to make it sound appealing. (...and fail miserably)

Exactly how I am. I used to think I had a split personality, because I could be the most borring, nonresponsive person you've ever met, or the most fun-loving, havok-creating close friend. I tend to have much more fun when around people I know well. Unfortunatly, after I went to college, the two people I actually knew well are gone, and I really haven't had much time to find new friends. Eh. It would be a distraction anyway (or so I rationalize).

Anyway.....on topic, what's something you've done that "killed the buzz" in the conversation?

I tend to correct someone in a really, really, annoying and nit-picky manner, because I wasn't participating in the conversation, decided I should, but hadn't been paying attention, so just started listening to one person, and they made a mistake. Effectively, derailing their conversation. No wonder they don't like me. :p
