Actually, if you mean the morning of the 8th GMT; the whole thing slowed immensely for me and there were CSS errors thrown about in the error log. However the server status was not down; my posts still got through --- even tho I had received warnings that they were over-time limit; and there were no messages of it being down when I viewed the forum through Konqueror as well as logging in with Firefox.
Bandwidth : we are only one third the way through the current month.
Bills: unfortunately we are paid up to July 2010; which is one very good reason for holding off moving to a better host...
Illegalities: I can conceive of no web crime apart from the single obvious one --- and I haven't noticed any undue discussion of the little folk here --- that would induce an American company to damage it's income by not overlooking it. As the late Sam Cummings famously said: 'There is no line of print that can be seen through a gold sovereign.'.
So if you had any difficulty then or since, it's because ASO is crumbling and has been so declining for the past year or so. They are very nice people, but their servers are struggling. Hosting is a cut-throat business and they don't make a lot from shared hosting.
There's not much the administration can do when servers go phut...
