I just signed up on these forums, hello! :kilroy:

Awhile ago I took the humanmetrics test and my result was INTJ, yet after a long series of browsing, I came to the conclusion that I was obviously an INTP and now test as such.

My thoughts and self-perception are still in the mix as I'm only 17. Recently I've been exploring the realm of literature, had a great deal of introspection and all that jazz that comes with maturity... which naturally left me more confused than ever. I was reading Demian and felt a compulsion to post on these forums, I suppose it subliminally drove me onward in my quest for self-actualization. :storks:

Additionally, I'm perfectly content with becoming a hermit as long as I have books, internet, and a stable food source. I am very adept at knowing, planning, thinking... then never doing.

As much as others feel a compulsion to arbitrarily organize their world into a series of divisions and classifications, I on the contrary find myself needing to destroy such boundaries in order to uncover the raw concepts which they portray - then have no compelling desire to rebuild the structure I just decimated. I fail very well at conveying my abstractions, which I find difficult to refine, no matter how simple or advanced.

I also have a hard time with long-term recall. I cannot for the life of me remember author's names, events, facts, or random terminology some are so adept at, unless I study them explicitly. This in turn makes it difficult for me to be concise and properly convey my ideas. Road names, historical figures, manufacturers, and pretty much everything else.

Sorry for making you all listen to my ravings. :D Are these all INTP things or just the way I think?

BTW... it took a great deal of effort to not use every single smiley these forums offer. There's a truly diverse selection.

I had that problem too. :^^:

And yes, my memory sucks to the point it's frustrating because I can't communicate my thoughts properly. I "thingy" and "you know" a lot.

Interesting you don't have the urge to (re)build structure. I almost do it instantly, or automatically even. Can't really think of how it's like not doing that constantly in the back of your mind.

And welcome.

I certainly do "structure" my thoughts and stash them away, but what's left is a processed idea. My general thought process is more or less based on ideas which I then have to translate into words (well duh, lol). I can't, for instance, develop a thesis in a paper until after I've written the entire damn thing.

In retrospect, I don't quite know why I put that the way I did in my post, I was feeling a little whimsical with my metaphor.

Don't worry, it happens to the best of us.

I'm not sure if I follow, do you mean bottom up thinking? Like big picture to detail.

Yes, that's what I meant. I couldn't quite put a proper description on it.

Yep, you're an INTP alright. It looks like most INTP's are very weak on the P/R category, and you can only distinguish between the INTP and the INTJ by their whole personality. I personally suck at history because the names/dates/places are impossible to remember. The hermit part is normal too. There's a reason this forum is one of the more active MBTI forums, most of us live on the computer. Enjoy the forum, and don't get bitten :smiley_emoticons_mr

Welcome!

No  I think it is a matter of understanding the gist of a thing, without being able to summon details. It may be related to a memory issue. I, for example, have a World Class Recognition Memory (gist) but seemingly lack a Recall Memory (annoying detail) as a consequence, which leaves me as a type of Idiot-Savant when it comes to memory and associated skills...

I am fairly certain this is not a quality unique to my own self...

Hmmm? Afterthought - I wonder if there is a correlation between the 4 types of memory and the four scales of the MBTI? I know there is a relationship between memory and consciousness/focus...

Yes, I recognize things very well, even if I don't remember exactly what they're called. It can be extremely irksome at times, for example I SUCK at remembering street names but I can describe landmarks and such... whether someone can understand me is another thing :D

I'd assume a sensor would have a more developed sensory memory... though in my experience, I do have a very good sense of image recall and have a fairly photographic memory (it requires a lot of reinforcement for small details). But I'm definitely not a sensor because I am very slow at interpreting my immediate surroundings :smoker:.

So it probably does have a correlation - an SF remembering conversations better vs. an NT remembering how to solve a math problem better. Though that's just a matter of preference.
