Are INTPs less likely to derive joy from music?

Huh. This is interesting. I'm glad someone revived it this thread, wouldn't have seen it otherwise.

I would very much argue it is about empathy/sympathy in terms of written/sung awareness. Understanding music has always been about using the music, as a background for memories, and association for emotion. You don't listen to Beethoven's moonlight sonata without some subtext. For the emotionally aware, its obvious. For the emotionally retarded, its like trying to explain to someone why cooking food is better than eating it raw. They don't know what nutrients it contains, or the science behind it. They prefer to eat what they like instead.

I love music! Some artists really have a gift for articulating exactly what I am thinking or feeling way better than I ever could. I also don't use music to change my mood, I listen to what reflects my mood more so than not although some music does relax me and help me focus.

I am a music afficianado. I love my electric guitar and experimenting on it with different tunes. I like rocking to a beat or headbanging. I REALLY started to listen to music when I was 11 and I started off with Heavy Metal bands and I was a real purist back then. Me and my school friend used to regularly fight over rock vs metal.

My musical palette has evolved quite a lot especially after beginning to play music
myself. Cannot imagine a life without music, really. I was maniacally banging the armrests on my chair while listening to a neoclassical instrumental minutes before I read this post.

I like music, but honestly, I prefer listening to information, audio books, classic movies, and so music doesn't take up much time in my life.

I Absolutely Adore Music, but I don't see it as an Emotional Endevour to listen to one, at least not intentionally, listening to good music is like having the intellectual satisfactionat looking at a good AI Art, you can marvel in their mood, complexity, and beauty, but it doesn't necessearily make me tear up, unless there is a preconcieved emotional context to the song.

:Warning: Some of these songs are severely depressing. You have been warned.

I'm an INTP and a Lisztomaniac. I.E: I feel the need to listen to music all-the-time. If I've not listened in over an hour, I start to panic. It's kinda like Stockholm syndrome in terms of obsession. It has essentially become a drug. I say this because of the release of dopamine I get when I listen.

So there's a couple ways music provides dopamine. Some songs encourage patience for the drop until the very end, (these are personally some of my favorites) I call them anticipants. Many are extremely difficult to listen to, cause subtle annoyance and then reward. They range from 6-17 minutes roughly and then... CHILLS. Generally I find depth in longer songs. Here's some examples:
Then you have the constants. These continue to give you quality dopamine highs throughout to the point you don't want to pause as it would break the immersion. Ex:

Following we have intermittent boosts. These ones are between anticipants and constants. Dopamine...wait...dopamine...wait. EX:

Next are the immediate gratifiers. These rather create a short attention span because of how instant the rapture grabs hold of you without pause. Similar to intermittent boosts but a little more invasive. Dopamine rises the instant you listen. They just sound good without always needing much depth. They can contain it but have a sensation of playful immaturity and are often energetic.

These are just a few classifications and only my opinion as an avid music listener.
