I used to play the board game diplomacy a fair bit when I realised Risk was far too reliant on good dice rolls, anyone here play before? Heard recently that a lot of people play online now and was wandering how to get into it or if anyone wanted to start a game.

Oh, man, I love diplomacy - it's actually awesome. I was introduced to it in Grade 11 by my History Teacher (before I learned to play Risk, actually) and I definitely prefer it over Risk any day (which, as you said, is far too dependent on chance). If you want to play online, you can check the wikipedia page on Internet Diplomacy for some good sites/programs.

And no matter what anyone says...Austria is definitely the funnest country to play as.

I have Diplomacy, but it's one of those games sitting in my closet I've never played. Reading a brief description of it, I feel like I'm missing out.

Oh man, maybe we could get an online INTP diplomacy game going. I've adjuncted (ya know, like game moderating) diplomacy games before.

We could have weekly orders due, maps posted in a thread, etc.

Anyone interested?

I'm going to be honest, it can take time to be motivated and do all the discussions. But it looks like we'd have 4 people immediately interested.

I also have a nice Mediterranean 5-player map, if we don't get enough people.

Is there a crude online Flash version of Diplomacy or something? Which I can learn on?

This site may be pretty useful for us. Not to mention that I *think* it can automatically process our orders for us.

Here are the starting place to learn the rules:

That's five... hmm... we need to find two more to arm-twist into joining. Do we have any victims in mind?

Sorry i've been offline last few days, yeah i'd definitely be interested in playing if we found one more person we could play with every country except Italy? I signed up to playdiplomacy.com recently funnily enough, it looks like a good place to start.

An INTP game will be interesting. Austria is a fun but difficult country to play imo you need to be quite political to survive ;) Turkey and Italy are quite hard to. Personally I enjoy playing Germany.
