It's not all that surprising really, for instance people were selectively breeding animals for thousands of years before Darwin's theory of evolution and I'm sure he wasn't the first to realise it, he was simply the first to publicise and try to empirically prove it.

Likewise many aspects of mathematics and engineering were probably deduced and lost hundreds of times, indeed even today certain technologies are being forgotten and redeveloped as the need for them rises and falls, especially in fields like metallurgy where alloys may be developed by trail and error because theory is never a perfect prediction of what you're going to get.

Humans are a lot more open and accepting of facts that do not concern their own being, thus the fact that animals and plants evolve is not in the least as upsetting as the fact that we do ourselves since it doesn't go along well with being Gods chosen creatures, life having a meaning, humans having souls while animals dont (at what point exactly did we transcend into humanity being animals no more?) etc etc.

I mean no Mendel could never have caused the same amount of drama as Darwin did. I guess what I'm getting at is that humanities pride hinders progress. If it weren't for the fact that no one was willing to think in such a direction I figure people could've put 2 and 2 together a little earlier what with them breeding animals and all.

It's still an issue today, arguments from biology concerning humans tend to upset a lot of people, secular humanists as often as the moderately religious.

I read enough stuff based on centuries of works from people asking and thinking why ancient objects are so perfect and how come they could build great pyramid with quantum mechanics constants in it...just puzzled the hell out of them. So we are not first to find that and the world is freakin old. To assume that there weren't civilizations more advanced than us is beyond naive. where did they go? Destroyed themselves is the answer. Just as we're progressing towards that. If you read and research tech history, you will find funny details about black projects of many big countries during 20th century after ww2. What did they invent and discover here? No one knows if they are not inside. I assume that these people took ancient writings seriously and saw that they talk about sophisticated tech, visitors from space and other funky stuff. Remember the knowledge of Vatican hidden from 99.9% of population and crazy diggings spree financed by rich guys. They wouldn't pour money into that if they would believe in what I talked about.

There's one very disturbing fact in history. It's called Tower of Babel moment. There is a moment in time where destruction of progress takes place. Just like mixing up languages. Because if that would not be done, man would be able to do anything he wants. I wonder what that means. If that was real, then it was done using technology. Question. Who did that?

Nope that's not it, thats hindsight bias looking back at specifics. You can't just frame people as stupid because the standard of intelligence is based on humans as a species, rather then it is a flaw of our species as a whole.

Archimedes using calculus in his works.
The Archimedes Palimpsest is a parchment codex palimpsest, which originally was a 10th-century Byzantine copy of an otherwise unknown work of Archimedes of Syracuse and other authors. It was overwritten with Christian religious text by 13th-century monks. The erasure was incomplete, and Archimedes' work is now readable after scientific and scholarly work from 1998 to 2008 using digital processing of images produced by ultraviolet, infrared, visible and raking light, and X-ray.
