-I'm a 19 year old sophomore in college, currently majoring in International Relations, about to switch to psychology and make IR a minor.
- Took the test a couple days ago when my dad (also an INTP) suggested I take it
- I'm obsessed with music, I enjoy reading (sci-fi especially), writing, sports, politics, video games, going to concerts..etc

Like pretty much everyone else here once I found out I was an INTP and read about what it meant, something clicked. I finally had an understanding of why I always felt so different from all of my friends. Stumbled upon this forum as I was reading up on the subject and it seems like it'll be a great place to talk with fellow INTPs and hopefully gain some insight and advice.

Welcome to the forum, Stay. What field of Psych are you headed for?

Well, I'm actually not sure yet. The decision was just made a couple days ago based on a suggestion by my dad to check out the field. I came into college not really knowing what I wanted to study and sort of rushed into declaring IR as my major. I'm taking some intro classes this semester so I can get a sense of what direction I want to go in. I can say that industrial/organizational psych seems to be the most appealing to me at this point. Clinical, social, and perhaps forensic psych also seem interesting.

Any advice?

Staywhatyouare, hey there.

After I saw your post on confidence I had to stalk you for a little and I:

Agree with your post on understanding people (extroverted intuition), chameleon effect (mirroring the person's style and getting into their head) and maintaining social harmony (although now I'm more no longer scared of conflict when I'm asserting my reality to abrasive people)

Find your interest in psychedelics delightful. I've been there and done (most of) it. Never touched a hard drug though. I'd have to say psychedelics helped accelerate my grasp on the big picture and help erase faulty thinking/frames of reality.

Like your taste in Pink Floyd (One of the best bands of Classic Rock, listened to all their albums many times, for years they were my favorite artist) (Nowadays my crazy is 'scholarly' Hip-Hop like Kanye West, Lupe Fiasco, Kid Cudi)

You should checkout this forum's IRC channel. I rarely go on but I'm trying to idle there more often now.

Any advice?

Well damn, I would have loved to chat about this with you if I hadn't started my hiatus in December. Any new insights in your career aspirations now? I'm in a similar position, except at the end of my masters instead of at the beginning of my bachelors. For that I envy you.

I am going to recommend a difficult course of action. I think you should figure out what part of organizational psychology seems the most interesting and then volunteer at a local non-profit that gives high school kids guidance. Trust me, they want people in your position, and from you writing I'm sure you'd be able to express things very clearly to the kids.

That's the experience that will tell you how much you really want to do this. Volunteering in the community is traditionally not an INTP interest and getting pumped for social interaction with strangers is not a strength, but the reward outweighs the effort involved by leaps and bounds. I did it once and it changed my life plans.

Old greeting is old, crimson :p

Hmm... I will have to work on new ones then. I wouldn't want my best wishes for others to get stale :D

Welcome. I also love the shoe "Heroes". Too bad it has been sucking as of late...I seriously think I can do a better job writing a story for the show.

Haha yeah seems like we have a lot in common, its a little scary. I also am a huge fan of "scholarly" hip hop....are you into any old school stuff like A Tribe called Quest or Jurassic 5? I haven't done much hanging out on IRC channels, but I'll definitely have to check it out.

Decaf: Thanks for the suggestion, that actually sounds like something I'd enjoy and could benefit a lot from.

And thanks for the welcomes everyone (even if they are a few months too late)
