I am everywhere.
I always have really frightening or depressing dreams. People often die in my dreams, usually the people I'm closest to. Sometimes I get killed or kill someone myself. It can get scary to even sleep. What's weird is that I'm a very hopeful person. I don't really get depressed or anything much.

Once I dreamed me and my cousins all hiked a mountain into a valley at night. The mountain was very steep. Once we made it to the bottom, it was very early morning. No one was anywhere within thousands of miles. We pitched a tent in the pitch-like darkness. One of my cousins asked me about different trees. She said "What's that one?" and we both froze. Something was wrong. Out of nowhere a huge bear leaped out and attacked us. I didn't know what to do so I just lie there for hours. Then it clawed me to death and made the scariest, loudest sound I've ever heard. I couldn't sleep after that.

What is the darkest or scariest dream you have ever had? Feel free to share multiple dreams. Also where do you think these dark ideas originate?:rip:

Biologically speaking, sometimes nightmares are induced by illness and/or stress.

As for scariest nightmare, I think nothing like what I experienced when I was a child that was having a very high fever. I remembered shipwreck survivors being killed via machine gun fire, their blood coloring the stormy seas in red. I remembered seeing "white holes" uncontrollably spewing out matter while "black holes" are desperately draining excess matter off the universe. I think the last vision was about my head about to explode from the fever I was experiencing.

I have some scary shit happen even when I do guided imagery.

Scariest dream I had was of a clown that was murdering people with knives and I was next so I had to run. A toaster was involved some way. That's all I remember of the dream, but it happened to me as a child.

Yes, almost all the times I actually remember my dreams they are very dark. Something about fear being associated with the dream is what makes me remember them I think.

Getting lost in a city or rather I always sort of know where I am but there's somewhere I'm trying to get to but the streets and architecture prevent me getting there, only once I wake up do I realize how nonsensical it all was.

Last night I dreamed I was telling my mother what a difficult day I was going to have at work today (the day after the dream, I was semi-aware that I was dreaming) and she dismissed/belittled me, told me it was my fault I had so much work to do. She wouldn't listen when I told her that I couldn't do testing in an environment that doesn't load (it's still fucked btw) then threatened to fire me for talking back because apparently she's also my boss now. I woke up infuriated, a few hours after midnight, and had to walk around my unit for a bit to calm down before I could go back to bed and back to sleep.

I dream about falling to my death a lot or being on a plane that's flying through a mountain range, repeatedly diving to pick up enough speed to rise up over the next peak, perpetually moments away from a fiery death.

I cool dream I had recently involved a really nice modernized English manor that was haunted, upon entering the manor I found reality was not quite right, different windows seemed to look out at completely different parts of the world, one might show a sunny summer beach, another a rainy town. Out the corner of my eye I thought I saw a mannequin move so I stood stock still and stared at it, after a bit the mannequin apparently became uncomfortable with the attention so it waved nervously and left. I encountered some people in hazmat suits checking out the place with Geiger counters and doing other investigative stuff, they weren't taking notes or doing it in any structured way, like bad actors on a midday TV show pretending to be scientists.

After a while of walking around seeing all sorts of inexplicable things I came to the conclusion that this disjointed reality is the interpretation of someone who has never encountered actual reality, only heard of it, read about it and watched it on TV. I demanded to see the manager and the ghost revealed himself to me as some combination of John Hammond (Jurassic Park), The Architect (The Matrix) and Colonel Sanders (KFC), he begged me to stay, he said "we make our own reality here, this dream could be paradise" and I replied "it could be a dadaist hell".

weird thing is, when I woke up this morning I was having a nightmare. I had gotten up to use the bathroom, went back to bed for ten minutes until my alarm could go off, and then I immediately dropped into a nightmare apparently.

I don't really know what about, but I was standing with friends in this room and we were being chased by two spooky Asian girl ghosts who descended from the ceiling and were hovering in the corner, but looking away (because ghosts are always creepier when they hide their face), so I was the only one brave enough to levitate up to touch them and see what was going on, although I was terrified they would tear me apart.

The funny thing was I was watching myself from the ground level, so it was an out-of-body camera view. I watched myself float up, touch them, and then they touched me and I still could not see anyone's faces from the floor... and then my alarm went off.

GO figure.

Then five minutes later I had read this thread.

I've had a couple dark dreams recently, I'm wondering if there's any real reason for it though.

A shady former acquaintance and I were going into a local hospital. The exact reason wasn't clear, but we didn't have good intentions.. a nurse knew we were up to no good, so she shot us. My "friend" four times in the face, myself twice in the face just below the eyes. I could still see. I looked over at him and his eyes had been shot out. However, he was able to direct his attention towards the hospital staff who shot us. It was calm, and we were trying to reason with them and get to an understanding with each other.

I left after this, without him, still with the two gsw's to the face and although not hurting I was overcome with dread. I had the sensation of the bullets tickling the edge of my brain. I tried to get to a different local hospital but was hesitant due to a real life bad experience there.
I made a stop on the way, a residence I was unfamiliar with, yet family and friends were there, and they weren't happy with me. Not at all concerned for my well being after having been shot, but angry for whatever it was I was doing earlier. So I quickly left, seeking out the other hospital I was hesitant to go to, then the dream faded off.

Other recent dark dreams have more personal detail, this one was just odd.

I have a recurring dream where my Dad has died. I'm in shock and can't stop crying yada yada. The worst part is that it's one of those ultra-realistic time dilated dreams. It goes on and on and fucking on. Once I wake up I'm just relieved it wasn't real, but I'm still stressed.

I have nightmare phases and I'm currently in one. Mundane/realistic nightmares are the worst.

I had a dream where I was prepared to go postal in a school. I went to the school with grenades and an ak47 with lots of ammunition. But when I entered the gym, there were little kids there and not the people I was expecting. And they were just innocent children and happy and stuff. So I didn't do anything and felt really confused and conflicted and then swat surrounded me and I was like "...fuck", so I took out my pistol and blew my brains out. I of course awoke with a lot of adrenaline.

Real dream. I had some issues back then. And high school was dumb. I guess maybe if the circumstances were right (wrong?), I could have been a school shooter...

I don't often remember my dreams but a few weeks ago I remembered that I dreamed that I went to the kitchen and we had eggs. I was happy because I thought we had run out of eggs.
