A Poem of Indefinite Length and Form

Once, in the land of Grool....

 

[EvilScientist Trainee]

Existed a dancing fool
Who danced, by kings and queens...

Sometimes the Bronx and Staten too.

 

[Stoic Beverage]

And when the fool grew weary,

 

[FearDunn]

He simply pranced around quite queerly

 

[Auburn]

Until his lanky legs gave up..

 

[EvilScientist Trainee]

And he wasn't able to make the cut

 

[Stoic Beverage]

So he went to a sleazy back alley,

 

[EvilScientist Trainee]

To search for his muse, Sally.

And feed her feed his hand-made jelly,

 

[FearDunn]

Oh, what a mess
the stain on her dress.
Reminiscent of Lewinsky.

Dawn's break, casting glow o'er Grool
Children wake and ready for school

 

[Stoic Beverage]

And the fool never ceases to grin,
'Cos he's nursing a bottle of gin.

As he sulks through alleys dark
Forgetting all he could have been
In stupor only does he hark'n
To his muse's song unseen.

Sullen but grinning
Gin he is drinking
Foolish for dance
and Sally's romance
Impudicity knows not sinning

Yet he knows all about winning

You can trace from end to beginning

But why is he quitting?!

Because his poem sucks!

Sucks, as opinion,
holds no dominion.
As verse, even worse.

An exercise in rhyme
Smithed by like minds
Cunning linguistics
and simple logistics
amounts to a Limerickical crime
Every time.

Summer's essence if contained
Through cold and dark it will sustain.
Spring's breech within reach!
I'm too Irish for the beach.

So on the sand I stand
Tube of SPF 45 in hand
For even in this winter chill
The sun it burns me still

For the poem, so long ago, died.
It hath been resurrected.

And by hope obscured
Darkens as love recedes.
I have not hope and love has gone.
Only darkness
